Kiter, Hodgson Win Richland
Shadle Park’s Michael Kiter and North Central’s Laura Hodgson finished with the top times during Saturday’s Richland Invitational cross country meet at Carmichael Playfield.
Mead’s boys and Eisenhower’s girls were the team champions.
Mead won the 36-team boys field with 70 points, 29 fewer than runner-up Mt. Spokane. Third-place University was another six points back.
Eisenhower’s girls scored 98 for an 18-point gap on U-Hi. NC (158) placed third.
Kiter finished the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 42 seconds, 11 seconds ahead of Andrew Ice of Ferris. Cameron Schwehr (16:02) of Mt. Spokane and Chris Fayant (16:07) of Mead were next in line.
Hodgson’s time of 19:06 gave her a clear win over Meredith Crane (19:14) of Davis and Jamie Geissler (19:35) of Mead.
The race was run in four flights, with elite runners entered in the fourth flight. Other local flight winners were: Katie Whittaker, NC, girls flight No. 3; Josh Koeller, Mt. Spokane, boys flight No. 1; Jeremy Redding, U-Hi, boys flight No. 2; and Tyler Adams, Ferris, boys flight No. 3.
The host Gonzaga Prep girls and Coeur d’Alene’s boys won team titles at the 16th annual Bullpup Invitational at Finch Arboretum.
The individual champions on the 5,000-meter course were Forest Braden of Bonners Ferry (16:20) and Laura Halverson of Freeman (19:00).
Second-place Adrienne Isgrigg (19:54) had the top time for the G-Prep girls. G-Prep scored 77 points, 12 less than CdA. St. George’s (114) finished third, led by third-place Samantha Clarke (19:58).
CdA’s boys scored 107 points for a 15-point gap on Ferris, which didn’t have a runner in the top 12.
Freeman’s Reid Carrell (16:35) finished second among boys.
Nick Bradley (17:16) and Josh Corder (17:19) finished 1-2 to lead Lewiston’s boys to the team title at their invitational.
Lewiston edged defending champion Pullman 36-39. Pullman had all five of its runners in the top 12, led by third-place Brett Udy.
Pullman won the girls title on a tiebreaker over St. Maries.
Pullman freshman Lily Lee ran 22:11 to win by 3 seconds. Lee was momentarily led off course by a college-aged participant.
Girls soccer
Caryn Grubbs scored the deciding goal in a 3-2 shootout and Tasha Ross made three saves during the shootout to preserve Lakeside’s 1-0 win over visiting Medical Lake (3-7-1, 1-6) in the Great Northern League. Brooke Yancey and Lacie Wilson also scored during the shootout for the first-place Eagles (7-2-1, 6-1).
Coleen Campbell had one goal and one assist in the second half to rally Post Falls (6-7, 3-4) to a 2-1 win at Colville (3-8-1, 1-7) in the Border League. Becky Thompson assisted on Campbell’s goal, which was hooked into the upper-left corner from 10 yards. Campbell later crossed a pass to Ryanne Smith at the top of the penalty box for the tiebreaking score… . Also in the Border, Amanda Cravens scored twice in the first half to ignite Sandpoint (10-4-1, 6-1-1) to a 3-1 win at Moscow (9-6, 3-4)… . Lake City’s match at West Valley was postponed. No makeup date was announced.
Amy Carey, Renae Ransdell and Brittney Dugger scored two goals apiece to lead Richland (4-2) to a 7-0 win over visiting Moses Lake (0-6) in the Big Nine Conference.

Chewelah wins
Kaylee Stone served for 15 points and Peggy Davis had eight kills as Chewelah (3-6) surprised visiting Pullman 3-0 in the GNL. Amy Chamberlain led Pullman (5-4) in every category except digs. Pullman defeated Chewelah 3-1 in a league match three weeks ago.
