F. Robert Berghan, M.D. Sandpoint
A celebration of life for Frank Robert Berghan, M.D., 80, will be Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hayden Lake Country Club. Yates Funeral Homes in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Berghan, who was born in Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, died Oct. 3.
He lived on the family homestead in the Yukon Territory, which his parents won in a raffle, until he reached school age and then the family settled in the Pacific Northwest.
He attended 19 different schools from Seattle to Beaverton, Ore., and went on to earn his undergraduate degree and medical degree from the University of Oregon.
He completed his internship at Long Island College Hospital in New York and his residency in internal medicine and endocrinology at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Berghan was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and served in the Navy during World War II.
In 1951, he became one of the original partners of the Rockwood Clinic in Spokane and practiced endocrinology and internal medicine there until 1975 when he left to develop the Internal Medicine Department for King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
After nearly five years he moved to Sandpoint and practiced internal medicine and also was chief of staff at Bonner General Hospital and served on the hospital’s board of directors for many years.
Dr. Berghan retired in 1993 and moved to Hayden Lake in 1996.
He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing and skiing.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Connie; a daughter, Kristin Berghan Sutliff of Spokane; two sons, Peter Berghan of Sandpoint and Thomas Berghan of Seattle; his first wife, Janice Berghan; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Col. Samuel May Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Col. Samuel May, 95, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Chapel. Mr. May, who was born in Dunbar, Pa., died Friday.
In 1918 he went to work in the Pennsylvania coal mines and worked until joining the Army in 1923.
Mr. May had also worked as a Pennsylvania State Trooper and was an original member of the Pennsylvania Aeronautical Commission and a licensed pilot.
After a long Army career, he retired in 1960 and moved to Coeur d’Alene, then lived in the Turner Bay Area on Lake Coeur d’Alene, before settling in Post Falls in 1972.
He married Gwen Beecham in 1929. She died in 1972.
Mr. May then married Geraldine Flatum. She died 1992.
He married his wife, Bonnie, in 1993.
He enjoyd hunting and fishing and pursued moose hunting in Canada.
Mr. May was a radio instructor and Ham radio operator until 1995.
He was a member of St. George’s Roman Catholic Church in Post Falls, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Retired Officer’s Association.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; five children, Gwen “Mickie” Jones of Post Falls, Maxine Taylor of Othello, Wash., Reinold May of Coeur d’Alene, Patricia May of Great Falls, Mont., and Helen Barfield of Spokane; a brother, John Meile of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Ieta Kuhra, Mary Michele and Rita Ferarri, all of Pennsylvania; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Betty (Norwood) Crull Spokane
Memorial service for Betty Jo (Norwood) Crull, 74, will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Corbin Senior Center. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 35-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Crull died Sept. 14.
She was born and raised in Hamilton, Texas, where she graduated from high school.
After graduating from business school in Dallas, she worked as the head secretary for the Cotton Ginners Association in Dallas.
Mrs. Crull was an antique dealer for 40 years.
Her husband, Alden, died in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Caleb Crull of Coeur d’Alene and Mark Neal of Seattle; two daughters, Karen Miller and Julia Powell, both of Spokane; a sister, Maxine Norwood of Spokane; and five grandchildren.
Eugene `Jeff’ Marmon Osburn, Idaho
Memorial service for Eugene Daniel “Jeff” Marmon, 74, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at United Church of Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Marmon, who was born in Williams County, N.D., died Oct. 5.
He moved to the Silver Valley in 1954 from North Dakota and married Ardis Fretheim in 1955.
Mr. Marmon worked as a heavy-equipment operator for Shoshone County and retired in 1988 after 20 years of service.
He was a member of the Osburn Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Masonic Lodge.
He enjoyed horses.
Survivors include his wife, Ardis; two sons, Patrick Marmon of Montana and Guy Marmon of Spokane; two daughters, Candy Charles of Osburn and Joy Relton of Alexandria, Va.; four brothers, Bill Marmon of Post Falls, Larry Marmon of North Dakota, Roy Marmon of Coeur d’Alene and Patrick Marmon of Montana; three sisters, Kathy Gagner of Rathdrum, Idaho, Florence Garcia of Chewelah, Wash., and Lila Slemin of North Dakota; nine grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth Schutt Pinehurst, Idaho
Service for Mary Elizabeth Schutt, 86, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at United Church of Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Schutt, who was born in La Grande, Ore., died Saturday.
She attended college in Corvallis, Ore., She married Wendell Schutt in 1935, and they lived in Portland before moving to the Silver Valley in 1940.
She taught elementary school in the Silver King and Pinehurst areas, retiring in the early 1970s.
She had wintered in Arizona until her husband died in 1994.
Mrs. Schutt was a member of the Retired Teachers of School District 391, United Church of Christ Congregational of Wallace and the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group.
She enjoyed gardening, blue grass music and cats.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary-Gail Powers of Osburn, Idaho; four sons, Wendell Schutt Jr. of Spokane, Robin Schutt of St. Regis, Mont., Elwin Schutt of Post Falls and Donald Schutt of Banks, Ore.; a brother, Harold Huff of Des Moines, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Vera (Guadanol) Naccarato Priest River, Idaho
Service for Vera (Guadanol) Naccarato, 92, was held Monday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.
Mrs. Naccarato, who was born in Pueblo, Colo., died Thursday.
She was an 80-year Priest River resident.
In 1925, she married James Naccarato.
Mrs. Naccarato was a homemaker and a member of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church in Priest River.
Her husband died in 1983.
Survivors include three sons, David Naccarato of Spokane, Clayton Naccarato of Kelso, Wash., and Anthony Naccarato of Arlington, Va.; a daughter, Adele Zunke of Sun City, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Edna (Haxton) Gingrich Colfax, Wash.
Service for Edna Mae (Haxton) Gingrich, 95, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at Pullman City Cemetery.
Mrs. Gingrich, who was born in Pullman, died Friday.
She graduated from high school in Pullman in 1922 and received her teaching certificate from Cheney Normal School.
Mrs. Gingrich taught in a small schoolhouse near Pullman.
She married David McNeal, and they lived in Davenport, Wash., where she taught school. They later divorced.
In 1950 she married Everett Gingrich. They lived in Moscow, Idaho, Dayton, Wash., and Endicott, Wash., where she also taught school. She retired in the early 1970s.
Mrs. Gingrich was a member of the American Legion, Order of Eastern Star and the Retired Teachers Association. She also was a 25-year member of the Whitman County Historical Society.
Her husband preceded her in death.
She is survived by four nieces and two nephews, Carol Rubin, Eileen Johnson and Robert Haxton, all of Colfax, LaVonne Stern of Pullman, Mary Lou Johnson of Buckner, Mo., and Robert Sears of California.

Fred Ginther Spokane
Graveside service for Fred Ginther, 80, was held Monday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ginther, who was born in Ellisville, Ill., died Wednesday.
He graduated from Avon (Ill.) High School in 1938.
Mr. Ginther taught for one year in a two-room country schoolhouse in Delong, Ill.
In 1941 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was stationed at the Colorado Air Force Academy for two years. He then was stationed at Galena Air Base in Spokane. After the war ended he was promoted to major in the Air Force Reserve.
He reenlisted in the Air Force in 1959 and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane.
In 1961 he married Shirley Tomlinson.
Mr. Ginther served for three years with the European Security Service in West Germany. He was transferred to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, as an ROTC instructor and lieutenant colonel. He was later promoted to colonel.
In 1967 he was transferred to an intelligence unit in Washington, D.C.
After retiring from the Air Force in the late 1960s, he moved to Phoenix where he began working on his master’s degree at Arizona University. He also taught Junior ROTC in Scottsdale, Ariz.
He and his wife moved to Spokane in 1972, and he taught at Medical Lake High School for four years.
In 1981 he and his wife moved to Fairwood.
He was a member of the Air Force Association and the Central Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; and two brothers, Eldon Ginther of Bushnell, Ill., and Eugene Ginther of Galesburg, Ill.

Herschel Lindsey Spokane
Memorial service for Herschel D. Lindsey, 82, will be at 3 p.m. today at Messiah Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lindsey, who was born in Wallace, died Saturday.
His family moved to Spoakne when he was an infant.
He graduated from North Central High School in 1936.
Mr. Lindsey received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern State College in 1940 and served in the Army from 1943 to 1946.
Mr. Lindsey received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Whitworth College in 1956.
He was a teacher at Columbia Elementary and a principal at Columbia Elementary, Regal Elementary, Garfield Elementary, Cooper Elementary, Salk Junior High School and Ferris High School. He retired in 1978 from District 81, where he had worked for 38 years. He also had spent 15 years at the All-City and Summer Music Program.
Mr. Lindsey was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He also was a member of North Hill Masonic Lodge No. 210, Scottish Rite Bodies, El Katif Shrine and Band, Royal Order of Jesters Court No. 65, Spokane Retired Education Association and the Washington state and national education associations.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Priscilla; a daughter, Kathy Pease of Tacoma; two grandsons and one great-grandson.

John Weber Spokane
Memorial service for John W. Weber will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Weber, 93, died Friday. He was born on a train as his parents were immigrating to Washington from Russia. They settled in Odessa, Wash.
In 1937 he married Winifred Crandall. They moved to Spokane in 1947 from Odessa.
He farmed in Odessa and Valleyford for 54 years. He retired in 1969.
Mr. Weber was a member of Odessa Grange, Neighborhood Grange in Mica and Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.
He was as a member of the Valleyford school board and was director of the Rockford Grain Growers Association.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Joyce Schutt of Spokane and Betty King of Portland; two sisters, Esther Gardner of Seattle and Gertrude Glanzman of Portland; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Richard Boardman Spokane
Vigil service for Richard E. Boardman, 78, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mary Queen Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Boardman, who was born in Oliver County, N.D., died Thursday.
He graduated from high school in Mandan, N.D.
In 1946 he moved to Spokane from North Dakota.
Mr. Boardman worked as a pipefitter for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 43 years.
He also co-owned Catherine’s Coiffure with his wife, Catherine, for 35 years.
Mr. Boardman was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Mary Queen Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years; two sons, Roger Boardman of Anacortes, Wash., and Daniel Boardman of Los Angeles; three brothers, Bernie, Daryl and Jim Boardman, all of Spokane; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Zenis Lundgren Spokane
Memorial service for Zenis R. Lundgren, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mr. Lundgren, who was born in Avon, Idaho, died Thursday.
He graduated from Deary (Idaho) High School.
Mr. Lundgren served in the Army during World War II.
He married Hattie Griffin in 1946, and they later moved to Moscow, Idaho, where they lived for 15 years. They then lived in Farmington, Wash., for 30 years.
He worked for Pure Gro in Farmington and retired as manager.
He and his wife moved to Spokane five years ago.
Mr. Lundgren was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department.
His wife died in January.
Survivors include two sons, James and Walter Lundgren, both of Spokane; a daughter, Pamela Summers of Middlesboro, Ky.; two brothers, Virgil and Kenneth Lundgren; a sister, Florence Moser; and four grandchildren.

Ethel Melior Spokane
Graveside service for Ethel Mae Melior, 87, will be at 1 p.m. today in Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Melior died Friday.
She married Laurie Melior in 1930.
She worked in retail sales at J.C. Penney in the 1950s and in the office for the Brotherhood of Friends in the 1960s.
Mrs. Melior was a member of Liberty Park United Methodist Church.
Her husband died in 1996.
Survivors include three daughters, Lois Merkel of Spokane, Darlene Weber of Seven Bays, Wash., and Phyllis Trembley of Lincoln, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Hildagarde `Judy’ Nelson Spokane
Visitation for Hildagarde C. “Judy” Nelson, 83, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
A 77-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Nelson died Friday. She was born in Moscow, Idaho.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Albert; two sons, Dennis and David Nelson, both of Spokane; a daughter, Carlene Whitesell of Grangeville, Idaho; a brother, Glen Palmlund; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Earl Poutre Spokane
Service for Earl N. Poutre, 81, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Poutre died Friday.
He worked as a credit manager for Washington Trust Bank. He also worked for United Way and the National Association of Credit Managers.
Mr. Poutre was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rose; a son, Bob Poutre of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Joanne Tatman of Spokane; a sister, Lorraine Hulsizer of Wallace; and four grandchildren.

Jean Reed Newport, Wash.
Service for Lois Jean Reed, 75, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Newport Cemetery.
Mrs. Reed, who was born in Ishmalof, Island, Alaska, died Thursday.
Her family moved to Newport when she was 6, and she graduated from Newport High School in 1942.
During World War II she worked for the city Parks Department in Tacoma for a short time.
In 1955 she married Eugene Reed.
Mrs. Reed worked as a secretary for the Public Utility District, Diamond Match Lumber Co., Civil Defense and the County Commissioners Office.
Mrs. Reed was a member of Soroptomist International of Newport, Pend Oreille County Historical Society, Pythian Sisters, Retired Eagles Activity Club and the Friends of the Cemetery in Newport.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Rick Reed of Newport, Tom Reed of Kena, Alaska, and Jerry Reed of Lincoln, Ark.; a daughter, Peggy Erickson of Lacey, Wash.; and three grandchildren.

Mary Smith Spokane

A 26-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Smith died Friday. She was born in Portland.
She worked as a secretary for Spokane School District 81 for 21 years.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Friendly Sam Group, Spokane Yacht Club and the P.E.O.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; three sons, Scott Smith of Spokane, and Greg and Jeff Smith, both of Seattle; and three sisters, Iris Lynch of Buckley, Wash., Georgia Ruhl of Portland and Jean Bennett of Palm Desert, Calif.

Memorial service for Estella O. Hanson, 85, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Veradale United Church of Christ. Private inurnment will be at the Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hanson, who was born in Butte, Mont., died Friday.
She grew up in Veradale and in 1932 graduated from Central Valley High School.
In 1934 she married Myrten Hanson.
Mrs. Hanson worked for the Early Dawn Dairy, Sprouse-Reitz and Edmondson Dry Goods.
She was a member of the Veradale United Church of Christ.
In 1993 she received the Senior Citizen’s Award.
Her husband died in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Lavonne Stone of Spokane; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
