Shoshone County Sheriff Resigns
Shoshone County Sheriff Dan Schierman has resigned, effective Oct. 31. He’ll start work the following day as a court security officer at the Federal building in Coeur d’Alene, he said Tuesday.
Schierman was faced with losing his job Jan. 1, having been defeated in this year’s Democratic primary by Chuck Reynalds. Reynalds faces independent candidate Tim Castle in the Nov. 7 election.
“It’s something that came up and would not have been available had I waited,” Schierman said of the court job.
The Shoshone County Democratic Central Committee has 15 days to come up with the names of three potential replacements for Schierman. Those will be submitted to the county commissioners, who have another 15 days to pick a replacement to fill out his term.
If Schierman leaves before a replacement is named, Undersheriff Nelson Morris will be in charge.
Schierman has been sheriff since January 1993. He plans to continue living in the Silver Valley, commuting to the job in Coeur d’Alene.
