The first Northwest Regional Swing Dance Championship competition will run Friday and Saturday at the WestCoast Ridpath Hotel in downtown Spokane.

Daytime events are open to participants only, but there will be public competitions Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday following a MurderMystery Buffet Dinner. Tickets for Friday night are $12, available at the door. Tickets to the buffet dinner-dance exhibition are $27.50. The reservation deadline is today; call 455-5771.

The competition is sponsored by the Spokane Swing Dance Club and participants include swing dancers from Vancouver, B.C., Portland and Seattle. Featured dance couples, who will give exhibition performances Saturday night, are Christopher Joe and Lisa Cortez, and Kyle Redd and Sarah Vann Drake. Both dance pairs have won either the U.S. Open Swing Dance Competition or best of show in national competitions.

The Northwest Championship is not sanctioned, so winners will not receive points toward national competition, nor will they advance to other competitions.
