Oregon State 3, Washington State 0: Ryan Cesca 22-yard field goal. Six plays, 45 yards, 2:33. Ken Simonton went around the right side for 53 yards to the Cougars 6-yard line. But the Washington State interior defense, which has taken its shots this year, came up with three straight stops to force the field goal.

Oregon State 10, Washington State 0: Simonton 2-yard run. Cesca kick. Five plays, 43 yards, 1:48. Keith HeywardJohnson intercepted Jason Gesser at the Washington State 43. Patrick McCall went around the right side for 22 yards. Simonton then hit the hole for 14, and the Beavers had a first and goal at the 3. Two plays later, Simonton was in the end zone.

Second quarter
