Obituaries

Leo Stout Pasco

Service for Leo Stout, 86, was Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa, Wash. Burial followed at Odessa Cemetery.

Mr. Stout, a former longtime Odessa resident, died Wednesday. He was born in Lacombe, Alberta.

He co-owned Wolf Motors in Odessa and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Mr. Stout moved to Pasco 10 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Florence of Odessa; two sons, Steve Stout of Goldendale, Wash., and Jeff Stout of Pasco; and four grandchildren.

Wilbur `Becky’ Bechtel Spokane

Service for Wilbur C. “Becky” Bechtel, 85, was Monday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial followed.

Mr. Bechtel, who was born in Clarkia, Idaho, died Thursday.

In 1950 he moved to Spokane from Lewiston.

Mr. Bechtel worked as a heavy-equipment operator for more than 40 years with International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 370C before retiring in 1982. He had been a union member since 1957.

His wife of 40 years, Billie, died in 1983.

Survivors include his companion, Stephanie Henry; a daughter, Christie Masters of Spokane; two sisters, Alta Hayden of Moscow, Idaho, and Effie Hoss of Lacey, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Garvey Parker Medical Lake

Memorial service for Garvey Charles Parker, 27, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, 10405 W. Melville Road, Cheney. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Parker, who was born in Billings, Mont., was shot to death Aug. 24 outside a Valley apartment complex.

He moved to Medical Lake in 1975 and graduated from high school in 1991.

Mr. Parker is survived by a brother and six sisters.

Harry Whiteside Spokane

Memorial service for Harry W. Whiteside, 92, will be held at a later date. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

A 58-year Spokane resident, Mr. Whiteside died Friday. He was born in Olympia.

He worked as a carpenter and was a member of Carpenters Union No. 98 for 50 years and the Spokane Gun Club.

Survivors include his wife, Maude; a son, Alan Whiteside of Cheney; two daughters, Marcia Olsen of Billings, Mont., and Constance Whiteside of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Ethel Temple of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Barbara (Tranter) Curley Spokane

Private memorial service for Barbara (Tranter) Curley, 82, will be at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Curley, 82, died Friday. She was born in Hudson, Mich., and raised in Lansing, Mich.

In 1938 Mrs. Curley graduated from Michigan State University where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

During World War II she served in the Navy as a lieutenant junior grade in the supply corps.

She married Fred Curley in 1944. They moved to Spokane in 1974.

Mrs. Curley was a homemaker and volunteered with various charity organizations and activities. She served as a docent at the historical museum at Fort George Wright College and participated in the St. John’s Cathedral Landscaping Society. She was a member of the Women’s Symphony Society, the Manito Golf and Country Club, and St. Nicholas Guild at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Her husband died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Robinson of Orting, Wash.; a son, Matt Curley of Hayden Lake, Idaho; a sister, Lucy Stickle of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Gonzaga University Law School or the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Gertrude Stuckle Davenport, Wash.

Service for Gertrude A. “Gertie” Stuckle, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Davenport area resident, Mrs. Stuckle died Sunday. She was born in Egypt, Wash.

She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Sewing Club and Wilson Grange. She also was a member of the Rocklyn Homemakers.

Her husband of 63 years, Albert, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Gene Stuckle, and a daughter, Pauline Drefs, both of Davenport; a brother, Herman Reinbold, and two sisters, Hilda Thiringer and Claire Van Buren, all of Davenport; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Robert Arnold Spokane

No service will be held for Robert S. Arnold, 69. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Arnold, a 35-year Spokane resident, died Sept. 1.

He was born in Leicester, England, where he graduated in 1948 from high school.

After graduating from high school he came to the United States. In 1949 he enlisted in the Air Force in Los Angeles and served as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1953.

Mr. Arnold later worked various jobs in warehouses and then as an attendant counselor at Lakeland Village in Medical Lake.

Survivors include his companion, Glenda Freeburger; two daughters, Cheryl Arnold of Spokane and Julie Arnold of Arizona; a brother, Brian Arnold of Illinois; and a sister, Jean Andrews of Lafayette, Ala.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dailan `Coach’ Clark Greenacres

Service for Dailan M. “Coach” Clark, 28, will be at 5 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Clark died Friday from injuries suffered after he fell from a pickup truckon Barker Road.

He graduated from Central Valley High School.

Mr. Clark worked as a laborer in the construction industry.

He played for Spokane city and Valley softball leagues. He also played in the Spokane City Flag Football League.

Survivors include his wife, Tracy, and a son, Tyler Clark, both at home; his parents, Gary and Kathy Clark of Greenacres; three brothers, Richard Clark of Spokane, Jeff Maahs of Greenacres and Rob Clark of San Diego; and his grandparents, Wanda Akers of Otis Orchards, Marlene Decker of Kellogg, and Cliff and Edie Brewer of Pinedale, Wyo.

Gordon Cooper Jr. Spokane

Memorial service for Gordon Wallace Cooper Jr., 74, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cooper, who was born in Los Angeles, died Aug. 29.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Fresno, Calif.

Mr. Cooper served in the Air Force from 1943 to 1944.

He worked in the insurance industry for 35 years and retired as an insurance claims executive from Continental Insurance in San Bruno, Calif., in 1990.

Mr. Cooper and his wife, Constance, moved to Spokane in 1990.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Spokane and various insurance associations in California.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years; two sons, Bob Cooper of Henderson, Nev., and Jim Cooper of Fresno; a sister, Betty Beier; and five grandchildren.
