State House of Representatives (1982-1993), including five years as chairman of Appropriations Committee. Elected King County executive (1993-1996). Elected governor in 1996.

Issues

Shift portion of state property taxes to local school districts and take other steps to reduce class sizes. “Stay the course” on state education reform. Reduce property tax. Use tax incentives to promote economic growth in rural areas.
