Undampened Spirit Lake City Students Work Up Enthusiasm For Homecoming Game

Not even rain can douse the Timberwolves’ homecoming spirit.

Despite Wednesday’s drizzle, a group of Lake City High School sophomores spread out on the commons-area floor to paint their spirit on posters. The students were supposed to build their class floats in the parking lot but moved inside to avoid the weather.

It’s all part of this week’s homecoming activities, which will end with Friday’s football game against the Colville Indians.

The teal, navy and silver posters will grace the sophomore float that will roll down Sherman Avenue on Friday during the 4 p.m. parade.

None of the girls minds if it rains. It did last year, and homecoming is all about having fun with your friends anyway, said sophomore Tonisha Mooring, 16.

“We’ll have a lot of fun with it, even if it all falls apart,” Mooring said about the possibility of the papier-mache and chicken wire float melting in the rain.

The group has been working all week on building a huge timberwolf paw, the main focus of the float. The paw will pound down on a teeter totter, smashing an Indian mascot that represents the Colville team.

“`Stomp the Indians,’ is our theme,” said Greta Neuman, 15.

The girls are also building a huge timberwolf nose to stick on the front of the truck that pulls the float. After the girls finished their posters, they headed home and finished homework so they won’t have to worry about it Friday.

Friday’s festivities will begin with a pep rally and the 4 p.m. parade down Sherman Avenue. Students will then return to the school for a tailgate party in the parking lot before the 7 p.m. football game. The night will end with a dance starting at 9:30.
