Sandpoint Dominates Tourney
Amy Dyck had 16 kills and Keely Kinzer added 16 digs as Sandpoint defeated the host Lumberjacks 13-15, 15-13, 15-3, 15-7 on Saturday to finish undefeated at the St. Maries volleyball tournament.
Rochelle Ruen added 26 assists for the Bulldogs, who also defeated St. Maries 3-2 in a Sept. 2 non-leaguer.
Sandpoint also defeated Rogers (3-0) and Ferris (3-2). Ferris bounced back after Sandpoint won the first game 15-0. Beth Lane and Ruen had 10 digs each in the Ferris match, when the Bulldogs totaled more than 60 digs.
Sandpoint missed just 11 serves in 12 games.
St. Maries swept both Ferris and Rogers 3-0 earlier in the day. The Lumberjacks’ only two losses in 19 matches are against Sandpoint.
Shannon McGrane totaled 12 digs, 11 kills and four aces to lead Colville (5-2, 4-1) to a 2-15, 15-13, 15-2, 9-15, 15-10 win at Moscow (6-3, 3-1) in the Border League. Jessica Vasquez guided the Bears with 10 digs, 29 assists and four aces. Colville’s win left Sandpoint as the league’s only undefeated team… . Also in the league, Danielle Rainville’s seven kills led Lewiston (1-2) to a 15-10, 15-4 win at Lake City (1-3).
Sarah Hansen had eight kills and Jessica Austad added nine digs as Lakeland (8-1, 5-0) retained first place in the Intermountain League with a 15-5, 15-4 road win over Timberlake (2-5, 1-4) at Spirit Lake.
All-tournament selections Courtenay Kiebert, Charlotte Scofield and Ashley Ruen helped Clark Fork defeat Bonners Ferry 15-9, 15-3 for its third consecutive Priest River Tournament title. Kiebert had 76 assists on the day, Scofield 76 digs and Ruen 30 kills. Shana Worcester added 14 aces for the tourney. Wallace took third place.
Janelle Scheffelmaier had eight digs and Cara Schlepp added seven kills to guide Kootenai (6-5) to a 2-1 non-league win over Logos at Moscow.
Boys soccer
Charlie Kingsland scored at 61 minutes to lift Sandpoint (7-0-1, 4-0-1) to a 1-0 win at Lake City (5-4, 4-2) in the North Idaho League.
Also in the NIL, Ian Liebrandt totaled two goals and two assists to guide Moscow (5-2, 3-2) to a 6-0 win at Post Falls (0-8-1, 0-5).
Taran White’s third goal, at 96 minutes, allowed Bonners Ferry (5-4-1) to edge visiting Lakeland 5-4 in a non-league match. One Lakeland goal and two Badgers goals came during extra time. The Hawks are 4-5.
Girls soccer
Kaitlin Mitchell scored three goals to guide Lake City (8-2-1, 4-0) to a 4-0 win over visiting Cheney (4-2, 3-1) in the Border League. Mitchell’s first goal, on a penalty kick, gave the Timberwolves a 2-0 lead in the 16th minute… . Junior Chelsea Zenner scored four goals to rally Moscow (8-2, 2-1) to a 5-1 win at Colville (2-4-1, 0-4). The Indians were missing six players because of illnesses, but led 1-0 until the 36th minute.
West Valley’s non-league match at Post Falls was postponed until 4:30 p.m. Monday.
