Harry `Luke’ Benner Spokane

Service for Harry D. “Luke” Benner, 92, will be at 11 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott, Wash. Burial with military honors will precede the service at 10 a.m. at the Endicott Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Benner, who was born in Endicott, died Thursday.

He graduated from Endicott High School in 1925.

Mr. Benner taught school in Richland and Lynden, Wash. He also worked at The Crescent in Spokane.

He moved back to Endicott and worked at a local tavern, as a farm laborer and for the Endicott Grain Growers.

In 1939 he married Ruth Lust and they moved to Tacoma in 1943.

Mr. Benner worked for the Mt. Rainer Ordinance Deport for 11 months, until he was drafted into the Army. He served for 2-1/2 years in the European Theater during World War II.

After the war, he and his wife returned to Endicott, and Mr. Benner worked as a rural mail carrier before retiring in 1973.

They moved to the Riverview Terrace in Spokane 14 years ago. He worked in the Riverview Little Store.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on various church boards. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a charter member of the Riverview Boys Club, past president of Whitman County Rural Letter Carriers Association and the Riverview Council.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathleen Birdsell of Deer Park; two sisters, Clara Phelps of Marysville, Wash., and Helen Washington of Missoula; and two grandchildren.

Shirley Fry Spokane

Private inurnment for Shirley G. Fry, 80, will be held at the Riverview Cemetery in Portland. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fry, who was born in American Falls, Idaho, died Thursday.

She was a 35-year Spokane resident.

In 1938 she graduated from Weiser (Idaho) High School. She also graduated with a degree in liberal arts from the University of Idaho.

During World War II she volunteered for the American Red Cross in Seattle.

Mrs. Fry worked as a secretary for Washington Water Power Co. in Spokane for 18 years.

She served as a docent at the Living Desert in Palm Desert, Calif., for four years.

Survivors include a son, Kim Frey of Eugene, Ore.; two daughters, Jennifer Paulish of Spokane and Susan Urdrian of Lake Forest Park, Calif.; a brother, Hubert Austin, and a sister, Ruth Pledger, both of Tucson; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Cena Link Spokane

Private service for Cena L. Link, 87, will be held at a later date. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Link, who was born in Colville, Wash., died Friday.

She worked as a home health-care provider.

Mrs. Link moved to Spokane in 1974 from Colville.

She was a member of Eagles Lodge and the Knitting Club, both in Colville.

Her husband, Francis died in 1973.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Britton of Spokane; a brother, Sidney Martin of Arden, Wash.; a sister, Lucille Brand of Spokane; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Virginia Wunsch Ione, Wash.

No service will be held for Virginia Lee Wunsch, 77, at her request. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wunsch, who was born in Winchester, Idaho, died Thursday.

Her family moved to Spokane when she was a child.

She worked as a window assembler for a local window manufacturing company.

Mrs. Wunsch and her husband, Peter, retired in 1980 and moved to Ione and lived on the Pend Oreille River.

Her husband of 54 years died in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Serena Dickamore of Ritzville, Wash.; two sons, Keith Wunsch and Thomas Bernard, both of Spokane; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Denina Evans Spokane

Visitation for Denina May Evans, 21, will be today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Miss Evans died Thursday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Interstate 90 near Cle Elum, Wash.

She had attended Spokane Community College.

Survivors include her mother, Delores Simon of Las Vegas; two sisters, Yvonne Simon of Spokane and Rikki Jones of Las Vegas; and her grandmother, Doris Simon of Spokane.

Agnes Hall Spokane

Funeral Mass for Agnes C. Hall, 92, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hall died Saturday.

She was a homemaker and a lifetime Spokane resident.

Her husband, Robert, died in 1986.

Survivors include four daughters, Joan Pribnow, Monica Brower and Roberta Boyd, all of Spokane, and Susan Boas of Bothell, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Martha Bosse Moscow, Idaho

Rosary for Martha E. Bosse, 77, will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Moscow with Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Moscow Cemetery. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bosse, who was born in De Smet, S.D., died Saturday.

She grew up in Moscow and graduated from the Ursuline Academy in 1941. She married Ernest Lister that same year; the couple later divorced.

Mrs. Bosse married Richard Bosse in 1951, and they lived in Spokane until returning to Moscow in 1959.

She co-owned Marty-Raes House of Ceramics with her sister, Rita Ann, and also worked for Washington State University until retiring after 17 years of service.

Mrs. Bosse was an artist, crafter and quilter, and won numerous ribbons at the Latah County Fair and other quilt shows. She also was active in traveling.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Parish Council, a past member of the Women of the Moose and a member of the Ursuline Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Richard.

Survivors include five children, Daniel Bosse, Janice Peterson and Richard A. Bosse, all of Moscow, Sharon Fletcher of Spokane and Michael Bosse of Walla Walla; two sisters, Leona Seipp of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Rita Ann Hendricks of Yakima; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Robert Miller Spokane

Memorial service for Robert A. Miller, 77, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Miller died Friday.

He graduated from West Valley High School in 1941, and served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in geology from the University of Washington.

In 1948 he married Barbara Swanson.

Mr. Miller worked for the Days Mine in Wallace, the Atomic Energy Commission and the Idaho Bureau of Mines. He retired in 1980.

He and his wife returned to Spokane 10 years ago.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Marine Corps League.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Craig and David Miller, both of Spokane, and Bruce Miller of Sandpoint; a brother, Harold Campbell of Eureka, Calif.; two sisters, Shirley Cooper of Battle Ground, Wash., and Lorraine Sullivan of Longview, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Estella Cawrse Spokane

No service will be held for Estella Rose Cawrse, 97, at her request. Private burial will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 45-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Cawrse died Friday. She was born in Proctor, British Columbia.

She married Duncan Morrison, and they lived in Sandpoint. They later divorced.

Mrs. Cawrse worked as a telephone operator in Sandpoint.

She married Francis Cawrse in 1949 and was a homemaker.

Her second husband died in 1968.

She is survived by seven grandchildren, Kevin Morrison of Spokane, Michelle Skalstad of Dayton, Wash., Shawn Morrison of Cashmere, Wash., Mark Morrison of Medford, Ore., Richard Morrison of Hawaii, Kathleen Morrison of California and Kim Barnes of Hamburger, N.Y., and 11 great-grandchildren.

Hazel Doggett Spokane

Private service for Hazel G. Doggett, 87, will be held at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 64-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Doggett died Thursday. She was born in Peck, Kan.

She was a homemaker, and a member of Valley Prairie Grange and the Bethlehem Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Her husband, Kenneth, died in 1997.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Hill of Colbert, Dixie Adams of Kennewick and Dianne DeHaven of Seattle; a son, Kenneth Doggett of Sunriver, Ore.; a sister, Arline Shepard of Peck; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Scottish Rite Center for Childhood Language Disorders.

Phyllis Wood Mead

Graveside service for Phyllis C. Wood, 71, will be at 11 a.m. today at Peone Prairie Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wood, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

She graduated from Mead High School.

Mrs. Wood worked as a cook for 28 years for the Mead School District.

Survivors include her husband, Leo; a son, Jim Wood; a daughter, Jill Skipworth; a sister, Shirley McIntyre; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

David Morse Spokane

Memorial service for David A. Morse, 66, will be at 11 a.m. today at Valley Church of Christ. The Neptune Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Morse, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Thursday.

His family moved to Coeur d’Alene when he was a child. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1952 In 1955 he married Charlotte Lingo, and they lived in Eureka, Calif., for 12 years.

They moved to the Spokane Valley in 1967.

Mr. Morse worked in the retail and wholesale pump supply industry for 41 years and retired in 1995 from United Pipe and Supply.

He was a member and co-founder of the Patch-N-Powder Clan.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Staves of Spokane; three sons, Jeff Morse of Spokane, Mike Morse of Post Falls and Steve Morse of Russellville, Tenn.; a sister, Jennette Franta of Gig Harbor, Wash.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Audrey (Decker) Werhan Spokane

Graveside service for Audrey K. (Decker) Werhan, 86, will be at 3 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 63-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Werhan died Thursday. She was born in Kooskia, Idaho.

She married Harold Werhan in 1937.

Mrs. Werhan worked as a housekeeper in the hospitality industry for 23 years.

She was a member of Hayford Community Church and a national member of Windsor Grange No. 980.

Her husband died in 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Jim and John Werhan; a daughter, Karen Bleeker; a sister, Paulene McCall; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hayford Community Church.

Hilda Skay Greenacres

Private service for Hilda Skay, 89, will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Skay, who was born in Rosen, Minn., died Friday.

She came to Spokane in 1940 from Minnesota.

Mrs. Skay worked as a care giver for the elderly. She retired in 1987.

Her husband of 33 years, Andrew, died in 1968.

Survivors include a son, Lee Skay of Greenacres; two daughters, Ann Logan of Spokane and Joan Skay of Los Angeles; two sisters, Rita Kelly of Ukiah, Calif., and Marlene Bauer of St. Cloud, Minn.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Michael Leonard Spokane

No service will be held for Michael J. Leonard, 45. Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.

A 15-year Spokane resident, Mr. Leonard died Sept. 12. He was born in Tripoli, Libya.

He graduated from Helena High School in 1973 and served in the Navy from 1980 to 1985.

He was currently working in the shipping department at Inland Wood Products.

Survivors include his mother, Edna Leonard; and a brother, Tom Leonard.

Agnes (Smith) Beardsley Spokane

No service will be held for Agnes Pearl (Smith) Beardsley, 94, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Beardsley, who was born in Perth, N.D., died Wednesday.

She was a 71-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.

Her huband, Pete, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lutje of Vallejo, Calif.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
