Ralph ‘Bud’ Jackman

Kootenai, Idaho

Memorial service for Ralph Willis “Bud” Jackman, 67, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Westmond Ward, in Westmond, Idaho. Burial will follow at Westmond Cemetery. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jackman, who was born in San Francisco, died Wednesday.

He lived in San Francisco before moving to San Gabriel, Calif., in 1940. He later joined the Army.

After his military service he married Mirriam Jackman, and the couple lived in Baldwin Park, Calif., and raised six children.

He worked as a heavy-equipment operator/foreman for most of his life and retired as a mechanic with Hood Corp. in Whittier, Calif.

Mr. Jackman would take his family when he traveled to various job sites and enjoyed parking the motor home along the West coast.

He and his children bought property in Sagle, Idaho, in 1990 and he and his wife moved to the site after retiring.

He enjoyed wood-working, fishing, cooking, gardening, yard work and golf. Mr. Jackman also liked to travel and restore classic vehicles.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years; six children, Debra Stout of Arizona, Michael Jackman of California, Katheryne Espinoza of Moses Lake, Chester Jackman and Clifford Jackman, both of Sagle, and Suzette Lester of Leavenworth, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Florence (Tucker) Dean

Hayden, Idaho

Visitation for Florence Berniece (Tucker) Dean, 87, will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Born in Inkster, S.D., Mrs. Dean died Wednesday. She moved to Nebraska as a young woman, and in 1939 married Earl Dean.

The couple lived in Nebraska until moving to San Diego in 1942.

During World War II Mrs. Dean worked as a riveter constructing airplanes and later lived in Encinitas, Calif., and co-operated a catering business in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

She and her husband lived in Hayden from 1985 until moving to San Marcos, Calif., in 1997. They returned to Hayden two years ago.

She was active in crafts, knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Encinitas.

Survivors include her husband; two children, James Dean of Vista, Calif., and Donna Dean of Hayden; a sister, Perlina Broderick of Sioux City, Iowa; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Genaro ‘Jerry’ Ragozzino

Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Genaro “Jerry” Ragozzino, 87, will be today at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Ragozzino, who was born in New York City, died Tuesday.

As a youngster he attended school while working odd jobs to help support a large family and enlisted in the National Guard when he was 18.

Mr. Ragozzino was inducted into the Army in 1942 and served as a surgical technician and physical therapist, amputee rehabilitation specialist with the 160th General Hospital Unit. He received a military discharge in 1945 and attained the rank of staff sergeant.

Mr. Ragozzino worked as a salesman in different industries, including automobiles and furniture, and also created window decor, lamp coverings and various household furnishings.

He was active in bowling, golf, crocheting, and playing the organ at local senior centers and retirement communities.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; a daughter, Rhonda Mazzali of Coeur d’Alene; and a son, George Reynolds of California; four grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

Nathan Collins

Priest River, Idaho

Memorial service Nathan Leroy Collins, 18, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Newport Assembly of God Church. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Collins died Wednesday from injuries suffered in an industrial accident at J.D. Lumber Co.

He was born in Spokane and attended schools in Cusick and Wilbur, Wash., and Priest River.

He participated in junior high football and high school baseball and graduated this past spring from Priest River High School.

Mr. Collins spent his summers working on a farm in Wilbur and during the school year as a planer and stacker for J.D. Lumber.

He enjoyed riding snowmobiles and working on Chevy pickup trucks.

Survivors include his parents, Donald and Kelly Collins; a brother and sister, Cameron and Melanie Collins, both of Priest River; and his grandparents, Herman Collins of Cocolalla, Idaho, Bill Ray of Spokane, Donna Morozzo of Loon Lake, Wash., and Connie Weston of Spokane.

Wendall ‘Rusty’ Fairbrother

Marshall Lake, Wash.

Memorial service for Wendall George “Rusty” Fairbrother, 44, will be today at 10 a.m. at Snow Creek Park Facilities in Naples, Idaho. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fairbrother, who was born in Napa, Calif., died Tuesday. He was a longtime area resident.

He worked in Wisconsin as a welder for Polaris snowmobile and personal-watercraft manufacturing.

Mr. Fairbrother enjoyed taking trips into the mountains, hunting, fishing, photography, hot rods and driving snow machines and motorcycles.

Survivors include a daughter, Kayla Fairbrother, and a son, George Fairbrother, both of Wisconsin; his parents, Edwin and Wendy Fairbrother of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; four sisters, Becky Stottlemeyer of Oregon, and Natalie Miller, Jennifer Hepinstall and Melody Fairbrother, all of Sandpoint; and four brothers, Randy Fairbrother of Sandpoint, Don Fairbrother of Vancouver, Wash., Michael Fairbrother of Newport, Wash., and Paul Lee of California.

Bonnie (Baker) Alberti

Medical Lake

Memorial service for Bonnie (Baker) Alberti, 46, will be today at 1 p.m. at Westside Chapel in Cheney. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alberti, who was born at Fairchild Air Force Base, died July 29.

She attended Westside Chapel in Cheney and worked as a registered nurse at Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake.

She had previously worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, the Cheney Care Center and Lakeland Village.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Alberti of Medical Lake; two sons, Michael Ownby of Spokane and Jeremy Ownby of Eden, Wyo.; three stepchildren, Jason Alberti of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Stephen and Larissa Alberti, both of Spokane Valley; a sister, Peggy Bunnell of Benson, Ariz.; and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westside Chapel or the American Lung Association.

Ray Salt

Spokane Valley

Funeral for Ray L. Salt, 90, will be today at 10 a.m. at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Salt, who was born in Sprague, Wash., died Thursday. He was a resident of Spokane Valley for 43 years.

He served in the Army during World War II, and in 1942 married Gertrude Ames.

He graduated from Cheney Normal College with a teaching degree, and taught at Adams Elementary and Bowdish Middle School. He retired as a teacher with the Central Valley School District in 1976.

Mr. Salt was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and beekeeper.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Diane Salt of Portland; a son, Charles Salt of Spokane Valley; a sister, Evelyn Cornwall of Spokane Valley; and two granddaughters.

Gladys Davis

Spokane

Memorial service for Gladys M. Davis, 92, will be today at 1 p.m. at the Open Door Congregational United Church of Christ in Deer Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Davis, who was born in Spokane, died July 30. She was a resident of Deer Park for 20 years.

She graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1930.

She was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries, the Deer Park Senior Center and the Deer Park Open Door Congregational United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Dingman of Deer Park; a son, Kenneth Lindahl of Spokane; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

John Vogt

Spokane

No service will be held for John Charles Vogt, 93. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mr. Vogt, a longtime resident of Spokane, died July 15.

Born in Prospect Hill, Conn., he moved to Spokane with his family when he was 12.

He lived in Denver and Los Angeles before returning to Spokane.

He worked in the sales industry and house painting. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Earl and Don Vogt; a brother, William Vogt of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Boys Ranch.

James Taft

Chewelah

Funeral for James Willard Taft, 76, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Chewelah Memorial Park. Schanzenbach Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Taft, who was born in Brattleboro, Vt., died Thursday.

He was retired from the Air Force and Spokane Public Schools in the maintenance department.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; a son, Howard Taft of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Miller of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Sandra Anderson of Santa Clarita; and nine grandchildren.

Alice (Shoffner) Lyon

Coeur d’Alene

Service for Alice J. (Shoffner) Lyon, 89, was Friday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Lyon, who was born in Ardmore, Okla., died Wednesday.

She attended school in Ardmore, and in 1954 married Martin Lyon.

Mrs. Lyon was a homemaker and lived in Abilene, Kan., for 20 years before settling in North Idaho in 1988.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include two children, Dan Lyon and Mary Ann Baker, both of Post Falls; a half-sister, Dorothy Frisbie of Allen, Pa,; and two grandchildren.

Irene Eneroth

Spokane

Memorial service for Irene Mary Eneroth, 73, will be today at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. An open house will follow at home of Dave and Dovie Eneroth, 105 E. Fender Road, in Colbert.

Mrs. Eneroth, a lifelong resident of Spokane County, died Thursday. She was born in Buckeye, Wash.

She married Dale Eneroth in 1949 and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Don, Dave and Ken Eneroth, and a daughter, Karen Langager; a sister, Marie Lawson; a brother, John Riley; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Kaite Schmidt

Spokane

Funeral for Kaite Schmidt, 24, will be today at 1 p.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, with burial at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Miss Schmidt, a lifelong resident of Spokane, died Thursday.

She graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1998 and attended Spokane Falls Community College.

She worked at the Academy of Little Bears and was manager at the Care-A-Lot Learning Center.

Survivors include her parents, Leon and Pamela Sue Schmidt; a brother, Christopher Schmidt; and her grandparents, Ernie Schmidt, and Rosemary and Bernie Deno, all of Spokane.
