Lloyd ‘Greg’ Gregory

Spokane

No service will be held for Lloyd J. “Greg” Gregory, 84, at his request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gregory, who was born in Dana, N.D., died Aug. 2.

He graduated in 1938 from Hazelton High School in Hazelton, N.D. He attended college in North Dakota before joining the Army following the start of World War II.

He served with the 20th Field Hospital in Alaska and Europe.

In 1943 he married Chlea Hornberger, and they had two sons. They later divorced.

Following World War II, Mr. Gregory entered the seed and grain business, managing elevators and marketing grain in Portland, Wenatchee, Forest Grove, Ore., Bend, Ore., and Nezperce, Idaho.

He retired in 1982 and moved to Spokane after selling his interest in Potlatch Grain Co.

He married Jeanne Powell in 1986.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jay Gregory of Longview, Wash., and Scott Gregory of Pullman; two stepsons, Brian Powell of Round Rock, Texas, and Dennis Powell of Spokane; two sisters, Ethel Bibelheimer of Minneapolis and Louise Reardon of Mandan, N.D.; 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or other hospice organizations.

Lyle Bossuyt

Spokane

Vigil for Lyle Vernon Bossuyt, 74, will be today at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bossuyt, who died Saturday, was a lifelong resident of Spokane.

He graduated from North Central High School in 1948 and married Janet Anderson in 1951. She died in 1970.

Mr. Bossuyt served in the Army during the Korean War. Upon his discharge he went to work for Soulay Steel in Coulee Dam and Hanford, Wash. He was a member of the Ironworkers Union.

He returned to Spokane, and in 1958 began working for Central Pre-Mix Prestress Plant. He worked in many capacities and supervised the placement and erection of prestress product in many bridges and buildings in Spokane and the Inland Northwest. He remained with the company until 1989.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Barbara; a daughter, Judith Colbert of Spokane; five stepchildren, Rick Halverson, Vivian Kaylor, Marsha Malsom, Mary Ellen Goben and Kim Halverson; two grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandsons.

Kathy (Renshaw) Ewell

Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Kathy M. (Renshaw) Ewell, 78, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Ewell, who was born in Lake Andes, S.D., died Monday.

She married Virgil Ewell in 1944 and lived most of her life in Pullman.

She retired form Washington State University and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1995.

Mrs. Ewell was a member of the Pullman Methodist Church and Beta Sigma Phi, and was a WSU Cougar fan.

She enjoyed sports and fishing.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Gary Ewell of Lubbock, Texas, Brian Ewell of Portland and Garrett Ewell of Newberg, Ore.; and a brother, Charles Renshaw.

Donald Duggan

St. Maries

Memorial service for Donald J. Duggan, 65, will be today at 11 a.m. at St. Maries Foursquare Church. Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Duggan, who was born in Carl Junction, Mo., died Friday.

He grew up in Wyoming and Idaho and enlisted in the Marine Corps in the early 1950s.

Mr. Duggan moved to Lewiston and in 1960 married Jolene Mendenhall. The couple lived in Harrison Flats near Harrison, Idaho, and he worked in the woods most of his adult life.

Mr. Duggan also worked on the construction of Interstate 90 between Saltese and Missoula in the 1980s. In 1987 he began working as a forklift operator at the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch Corp. and retired in 2001.

He enjoyed playing the guitar and piano and working on antique cars.

Survivors include his wife; seven children, Jim Duggan of Harrison, Steve Duggan of Salem, Ore., Carol Collins of St. Maries, Sheila Long of Kootenai, Idaho, Lisa Havens of Asotin, Wash., Angela Duggan of Kellogg and Tammy Duggan of Yakima; a brother, Bob Duggan of Clarkston; a sister, Lynette Thompson of Lewiston; numerous grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Francis Dupuis

Colville

Funeral for Francis Eugene Dupuis, 79, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Danekas Funeral Chapel, with graveside service and vault burial to follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Colville.

Mr. Dupuis, a lifelong resident of the Colville area, died Monday.

He graduated in 1942 from Colville High School. After graduation he entered the Army Air Corps and served in the Philippines during World War II.

He received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.

After his military service, he returned to the family farm outside Kettle Falls in the Greenwood area. He raised wheat barley and alfalfa there. He also worked at the Boise Cascade lumber mill for 19 years. He retired in 1986 and continued farming and raising cattle.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed short trips and working on his machinery.

Etta Buckley, his wife of 47 years, died in 1994.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Dupuis of Colville and Marcia Dupuis of Kettle Falls; two sons, Rodney and Anthony Dupuis, both of Kettle Falls; and seven grandchildren.

Quill McBrien

Pinehurst, Idaho

Service for Quill McBrien, 82, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Shoshone Memorial Gardens in Pinehurst.

Mr. McBrien, who was born in Welch, Okla., died Saturday.

He married Alice Lowery in 1941 and served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. McBrien moved to the Silver Valley in 1950 from Oklahoma.

He was involved in tunnel construction in Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and the Sillver Valley. He also was a logger and miner.

Mr. McBrien worked for the Bunker Hill Mining Co. for 32 years before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Bunker Hill 20-year Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of the Wardner Industrial Union.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Billie Stewart of Columbus, Mont., Patsy Ritchie of Dayton, Ohio, and Morris McBrien of Lawton, Okla.; a sister, Evadna Evans of Las Vegas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Douglas Patton

Pinehurst, Idaho

Service for Douglas L. Patton, 48, will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Pinehurst Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Patton, who was born in Lewiston, died Sunday.

He lived in St. Maries before moving to the Silver Valley in 1975 and graduated from Wallace High School that same year.

In 1980 he married Johanna Slatten.

He worked for Interstate Concrete and Asphalt and Summit Alaska and had worked at Pruhs Corp. at the time of his death.

He was active in basketball and served as a youth league coach and enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife; two children, Seth and Michele Patton, both at home; two brothers, Dan of Alaska, and Don of Kingston, Idaho; and a sister, Debbie Yeoman of Smelterville, Idaho.

Violet (May) Cunningham

Springdale, Wash.

Memorial service for Violet O. (May) Cunningham, 70, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Springdale Community Church. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cunningham, who was born in Boise, died Aug. 4 in a house fire. She was a resident of Springdale for 26 years.

She was a healthcare worker for 50 years before retiring in 2001.

She enjoyed gardening, reading and cooking, and had received the Healthcare Providing and Military Family Support award.

She married Everett Cunningham in 1963. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Belva McLean of Springdale; three sisters, Esther May of Spokane, Audrey Raczykowski of Idaho and Mary Hartill of Colville; three brothers, Ardell McNerney of Sunnyside, Wash., Auldon McNerney of Spokane and Allen McNerney of Oregon; and three grandchildren.

Patricia Worley

Newport, Wash.

Memorial service for Patricia Ann Worley, 67, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Newport. A reception will be at Fire District 7 in Newport. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Worley died Friday.

She was born in York, Neb. Her family moved to Deer Park, where she graduated from high school in 1955.

That year she married William Worley, and they made their home in Pend Oreille County.

Mrs. Worley was a member of the Paint Party Girls and Fire District 7 Auxiliary.

She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, paints and quilting.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Ron and Dennis Worley, both of Newport, and Michael Worley of Elk; two daughters, Kathy Groce of Elk and Karen Jackson of Newport; a brother, Ray Hall of Clayton, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Nellie Taylor

Spokane

Funeral for Nellie A. Taylor, 93, will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home, with burial at 2:30 p.m. at Moscow Cemetery.

Mr. Taylor, who was born in Moscow, Idaho, died Aug. 2.

She married Clarence Taylor in 1955. She worked as a cashier at a retail store.

Mrs. Taylor lived on Half Moon Prairie for 45 years before moving to Spokane in 2000.

She was a member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church, Half Moon Grange and the Half Moon Women’s Club.

Her husband died in 1971.

Survivors include a stepson, Allen Taylor of Spokane.

Walter Pritchett

Spokane

Memorial service for Walter L. Pritchett, 78, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Pritchett, who was born in Petersburg, Ill., died Aug. 4.

He served in the Air Force and was discharged in 1951. He then went to work for Potlatch Lumber mills, which became Boise Cascade Corp., until 1960.

He then worked for Convoy Co. in Spokane, hauling new automobiles, until his retirement in 1988.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley; a son, Jesse of Spokane and daughter, Crystal of Sprague, Wash.; three brothers Donald, Kenneth and Larry; a sister, Shirley; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gerald Thompson

Pahrump, Nev.

Private service will be held for Gerald E. Thompson, 83. Pahrump Family Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson, who was born in Almira, Wash., died Aug. 1 in Pahrump, his home for seven years. He was a former 60-year resident of the Spokane area.

He served in the Army Air Corps and worked as a real estate appraiser for 30 years, retiring in 2000. He also owned Thompson Drug Store in Spokane in the 1960s.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Darlene Hardenbrook and Dianne Updike; and two stepdaughters, Pamela Ludwig and Paula Calkins, all of Spokane.

Daniel Ellis

Spokane

Service for Daniel Joseph Ellis, 39, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ellis died Sunday of cancer. Born in Portland, he was a resident of Spokane for 36 years.

He was a graduate of Gonzaga University with a Bachelor of Arts in history.

He was a schoolteacher and a preservationist for the Spokane Historical Society.

He also was a musician - he played the drums for The Flies - and co-founded the Blue Spark Pub.

Survivors include four siblings, Antoinette, George, Mia and Michael.

Vernon Crowe

Spokane

Memorial service for Vernon P. Crowe, 92, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, with inurnment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Crowe, who died May 6, was a lifelong resident of Spokane.

He worked in hotel and motel management.

Mr. Crowe was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a past president of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Grace; two stepsons, Joseph and James Ross, both of Spokane; two stepdaughters, Joan Dudley of Vancouver, Wash., and Judy Devine of Spokane; eight stepgrandchildren and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Ruth Helpingstine

Spokane

Graveside service for Ruth Helpingstine, 94, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Peone Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Helpingstine, who died Sunday, was born in Ada, Okla. She was a resident of Spokane for more than 80 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Fowler United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Alva Helpingstine, died in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Syhlman of Spokane; and a granddaughter.
