The Sliders of Corona, Calif., defeated the Diamond Queens of Lynnwood, Wash., 5-0 to win the Women’s ‘B’ Fastpitch National Championship softball tournament on Sunday at Franklin Park.

Eagle Sportswear of Spokane finished third in the tourney, losing 7-5 to the Diamond Queens in a Sunday morning elimination game.

Eagle Sportswear had three players named to the All-America team: Second baseman Jo Gonzalez, who batted .412 for the tourney; outfielder Kaylene Fountain (.357); and first baseman Kristen Keaton (.444).

Eagle Sportswear posted a 4-2 record in the tournament.

Hockey

Spokane Chiefs forward Adam Hobson and his Team Canada teammates won the gold medal at the World Junior Cup with a 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic in the championship game in Breclav, Czech Republic.

Hobson scored one goal and added an assist in the tourney.

Canada posted a 5-0 record en route to its seventh gold medal in the past eight years.
