Clifford Clark
Coeur d’Alene
Service for Clifford Clark, 89, will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene with burial to follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at the church. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Clark, who was born in St. Paul, Neb., died Sunday.
He was afflicted with polio at the age of 6 and lived at the Lincoln (Neb.) Hospital until he graduated from the University of Nebraska Teachers College High School in 1933.
Mr. Clark received an accounting degree in 1937 from Nebraska State College and became an auditor for the state of Nebraska.
He moved to Bozeman, Mont., in 1939 and was employed by Deaconess Hospital until becoming a partner in the accounting firm of Clark, Stiff and Kirchoff.
He retired in 1972 and traveled across the country with his wife, Martha, for six years.
They settled in Coeur d’Alene in 1978.
Mr. Clark was an active follower of the stock market and enjoyed traveling, exploring new ideas and trying new things.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nanci Clark-Hawkins of Coeur d’Alene and Niki Clark of Nova Scotia; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Virene Gunning
Spokane
Service for Virene Gunning, 79, will be today at 11 a.m. at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash.
Mrs. Gunning, who was born in Wallace, died last Tuesday.
She graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1943 and nursing school in 1945.
She was a surgical nurse in Anchorage, Alaska, San Francisco and Spokane before marrying Robert Gunning in 1954.
She moved to a Davenport farm and was a homemaker there until failing health led to a move to the Waterford retirement center in Spokane in 1999.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, tole painting and crafts.
Mrs. Gunning was a member of PEO and the Community Grange.
Survivors include her husband; two children, Jim Gunning of Davenport and Lisa Paternoster of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Pam Young of Grants Pass, Ore.; a brother, Everett Nelson of Missoula; four grandchildren and two stepgranddaughters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
Agnes Kearns
Spokane
Funeral Mass for Agnes Kearns, 88, will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Kearns, a lifelong resident of the Spokane area, died last Tuesday.
She was secretary to the wing commander at Fairchild Air Force Base, and was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Altar Society and AXO.
Survivors include a sister, Katherine Dungan.
Marion McTigue
Newport, Wash.
No public service is planned for Marion Bethel McTigue, 97. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McTigue, who died Friday, was born in Onamia, Minn.
In 1925 she married John McTigue, and the couple moved to Pend Oreille County in 1928.
Her husband died in 1971.
Mrs. McTigue enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include two children, Mary Romero of Newport and Larry McTigue of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Noel Warren of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Betty (Sawyer) Power
Smelterville, Idaho
Service for Betty Lou Power, 79, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Kellogg. Interment will be at Shoshone Memorial Gardens in Pinehurst, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Power, who was born in Trenton, Mo., died Sunday.
She moved to the Silver Valley as a young girl and married Sprague Power in 1943.
Mrs. Power was a homemaker and a member of the Silver King Quilting Club, American Lutheran Church and the church sewing circle.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years; three daughters, Andrea Ryan of Kellogg, Chris Pate of Coeur d’Alene and Melinda Groves of Wardner, Idaho; three brothers, Tom Sawyer of Kingston, Idaho, Bill Sawyer of Hayden, Idaho, and Mike Sawyer of Pinehurst; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Edna Tussey
Spokane
Graveside service for Edna M. Tussey, 85, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Tussey, who was born in Walnut, Iowa, died Friday.
She graduated from Omak (Wash.) High School in 1937 and attended Kinman Business College.
She worked for the library department delivering books and as was known as the “book mobile lady.” She also worked for the Shadle Library before retiring in 1981.
She was a member of the Iris Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Sanchez and Gloria Tussey; a son, Robert Tussey; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Care Center pet and plant fund.
Evelyn Streeter
Spokane
No service will be held for Evelyn V. Streeter, 80, at her request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Streeter, who was born in Ritzville, Wash., died Saturday.
She had been a resident of Moran Prairie since 1931 and graduated from Valleyford High School.
She married Sidney Streeter in 1946. He died in 2002.
Mrs. Streeter worked as a bookkeeper for Genuine Parts/NAPA Auto Parts in Spokane until her retirement in 1977.
She had been a member of the Moran Prairie Grange since 1952.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Fildes of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Kathy Streeter of Spokane; two sisters, Carolyn Ross of Bothell, Wash., and Betty Pearson of Ritzville; and two grandsons.
Martha Marquess
Spokane
Memorial service for Martha Marquess, 82, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Marquess, who was born in Powell, Wyo., died Wednesday.
She was raised in Prineville, Ore., and lived in Lewiston, Spangle and Cheney.
She was a waitress, and enjoyed bowling and golfing, and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed playing fantasy football.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilu Campbell of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Marsha Marquess of Spokane; a son, Mort Marquess of Spokane; a brother, Bob Barney of Sacramento; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Lloyd Chappell
Spokane
Memorial service for Lloyd Earl Chappell, 76, will be at a later date. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Chappell, who was born in Minot, N.D., died Wednesday.
In 1946 he enlisted in the Air Force in Spokane and in 1948 was honorably discharged as a sergeant at Camp Stoneman, Calif.
Mr. Chappell spent his career working as a machine shop welder, with 15 of those years in Spokane.
He enjoyed raising miniature horses and building sailboats and model trains.
Survivors include a daughter, Tamara Lauba of Bellevue, Wash.; a son, Robert Knippel of Spokane; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Evelyn (Burgeson) Holman
Spokane
Memorial service for Evelyn V. (Burgeson) Holman, 92, will be Aug. 29 at 1:30 p.m. at Riverview Retirement Center. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Holman, who died Thursday, was born in Ishpeming, Mich. She was a resident of Spokane for 11 years.
She graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1929 and married George Holman in 1934.
Mrs. Holman worked as a secretary for more than 25 years and retired from Roseville (Mich.) High School after 17 years.
She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, knitting and traveling.
Survivors include her husband; a son, William Holman of Fairbanks, Alaska; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
