Metcalf, Lujon spark Indians
KEIZER, Ore. – Travis Metcalf started the Indians off and running with a two-out solo home run in the first inning and John Lujan tossed five shutout innings in his first start of the season as Spokane cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Northwest League baseball on Tuesday night.
The Indians remained two games behind front-running Boise in the East Division race.
Kevin Mahar doubled in a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and later scored on a wild pitch and Billy Susdorf capped the inning with an RBI double to put the Indians up 5-0.
Jim Fasano doubled in two runs in the top of the fourth to make it 7-0. Fasano finished with three doubles on the night.
Spokane sends Shawn Phillips (3-1, 3.90) to the mound tonight for the middle game of the five-game series.
