Lowdown
The tandem of Maurice Morris and Bobby Engram is back to handle return duties. Morris brought back 47 kicks last year with his longest return covering 56 yards.
Kerry Carter’s top return was a 33-yarder. Engram has been the primary punt returner for two seasons and he’s produced steady numbers – one touchdown each year and averages of 10.7 and 10.3.
He became the first Seahawk since Joey Galloway in 1998 to score via a reception and punt return in the same game. Engram is reliable and sure-handed.
Tellis Redmon and former Washington State Cougar Sammy Moore are trying to catch the coaches’ eyes via special teams. Redmon is averaging just three yards per punt return, but he averaged 20.5 yards on four kick returns against Denver.
Moore is averaging just over eight yards on his five punt returns.
Fast fact
Engram and Atlanta’s Allen Rossum are the only two punt returners to average at least 10 yards per return and rank in the top five in the NFC the last two seasons.
Quote
“We’ve used Maurice and Kerry on kicks and had Bobby, Sammy and Tellis on punts, and Maurice even fielded one. We’re working a couple people in on punt returns trying to get some depth and see what they can do.”
– Mark Michaels, special teams coach.
