Kennedy two-way All-State selection

Gonzaga Prep senior Brandon Kennedy was selected to the Class 4A offensive and defensive units of the Washington Associated Press All-State football team, announced Thursday.

Kennedy, who helped the Bullpups to the State 4A semifinals, was named as a receiver and defensive back. His teammate, senior lineman Mike Ogrin, was selected honorable mention.

Rogers senior tight end Levi Horn and Shadle Park senior all-purpose player Andy Largent were the other Greater Spokane League players named to the 4A first team.

GSL players selected to the 3A first team were senior place-kicker Kris Higgins of North Central and junior defensive back Jye Lanphere of East Valley. Cheney senior Brett Igbinoba was named all-purpose honorable mention.

Pullman senior linebacker Sam Tennant was named to the 2A first team.

Senior running back Kevin Hatch, who led Freeman to the state championship game, was named to the 1A first team.

Lind-Ritzville junior Nick Ashley was named B-11 player of the year after guiding the Broncos to the state title. Ashley was selected to the team as a running back and linebacker.

Also named to the B-11 first team: senior Derrick Campbell, Reardan, lineman; and senior Gaeb Giddings, Republic, linebacker.

Three-time state champion LaCrosse-Washtucna dominated the B-8 team, with junior lineman Jeff Bafus earning honors as player of the year. Senior quarterback Justin McKenzie, junior receiver/lineman Matt Martin, senior linebacker Alex Michel, junior linebacker Kevin Dainty, and senior defensive backs Craig Koller and Josh Chastain were the other Tigercats.

Columbia (Hunters) senior lineman Joey Richardson and Sprague-Harrington senior running back Josh Adams also made the B-8 first team.

Bellevue senior running back J.R. Hasty was named state player of the year. Evergreen (Vancouver) senior running back Taylor Rank was selected 4A player of the year. East Valley (Yakima) senior receiver Matt Snell won the award in the 2A ranks, and Royal junior running back Jeff Jack was the 1A player of the year.
