Sasquatch fall short in title game

Nikki Johnson tossed in a game-high 23 points and Pullman High graduate Sade Smith added a double-double – 13 points and 10 rebounds – to lead the Centralia Trailblazers to an 80-60 victory over the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch in the championship game of the Grays Harbor Crossover women’s basketball tournament on Sunday in Aberdeen, Wash.

Jen Solberg totaled 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor for unbeaten Centralia (8-0).

Morgan Rulon topped the Sasquatch (6-6) with 12 points, hitting 4 of 4 shots from 3-point range. Melissa Claflin, a Shadle Park High grad, added 11 points.

CC Spokane’s Angie Clift and Jackie Albi were named to the All-Tournament team. Centralia held Clift to nine points on 2-of-10 shooting. Albi was also held to nine points, on 3-of-6 shooting from behind the arc, in the title game.

Men’s basketball

Jeremy Mangum and Kyle Janke scored 14 points apiece to lead the CC Spokane Sasquatch (6-4) to a 74-62 victory over the Southwestern Oregon Lakers at the Green River Tournament in Auburn, Wash.

Joel Ryman and Jordan Hammond each added 11 points, with Hammond pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.

Junior hockey

Ryan Pajimola tallied two goals and an assist and Seth Compton added a goal and two assists to lead the Spokane Braves to a 5-3 victory over the Nelson Maple Leafs in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play at Planet Ice.

Lief Sherman and Mike Senseman also found the net for the Braves (13-19-2-3), who pulled into a third-place tie with Nelson with the victory.
