Hasselbeck receives good news
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is expected to play when Arizona visits this weekend, though his sore throwing elbow will require treatment and his throwing will be limited in practice.
“The scan they did today revealed no cracks or breaks or tears,” coach Mike Holmgren said Monday.
Hasselbeck’s right arm went numb after he was sacked by Shaun Ellis during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 37-14 loss to the New York Jets. Hasselbeck completed 22 of 30 passes for 201 yards and two TDs, but was sacked three times.
“When it first happened, I thought something was really serious,” Hasselbeck said. “When I came to the sideline, the pain went away a little bit but I couldn’t throw.”
Asked if Hasselbeck can play against the Cardinals in a key NFC West game, Holmgren said, “I’m optimistically holding that thought.”
Hasselbeck said his arm still feels “like something’s not right,” but he was encouraged hearing doctors say the tests disclosed no damage.
Linebacker Chad Brown is expected to play after hurting his right foot in the fourth quarter against the Jets. It’s the same foot that required surgery and forced him to miss half the 2002 season.
“He won’t practice, but he will play,” Holmgren said.
Brown returned last weekend after a three-game absence, posting seven tackles.
The Seahawks also will have receiver Koren Robinson, who served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
Another receiver, reserve Jerheme Urban, probably will miss the final two regular-season games after tests disclosed what Holmgren called a “hot spot” in his left foot that could lead to a stress fracture.
Defensive tackle Rocky Bernard could return from a sprained ligament in his right knee after a two-game absence
