Red Sox 7, Rangers 0: At Boston, Johnny Damon went 4 for 5 with two homers and four RBIs, Bronson Arroyo allowed three hits in eight innings for his first win since May 15 and the Red Sox beat Texas.
Angels 5, Blue Jays 4: At Toronto, Bartolo Colon pitched seven strong innings for his second win in his last 11 starts, and Vladimir Guerrero drove in three runs to lead Anaheim to a victory over the Blue Jays.
Indians 5, Athletics 4: At Cleveland, pinch-hitter Lou Merloni’s two-run single capped Cleveland’s three-run ninth inning off Octavio Dotel as the Indians rallied again to beat Oakland.
Yankees 5, Devil Rays 4: At New York, Paul Quantrill and Mariano Rivera made sure the Yankees held off Tampa Bay for the second straight night. Quantrill relieved Javier Vazquez with a two-ball count and the bases loaded in the sixth inning and escaped the jam, and New York beat the Devil Rays. Rivera gave up a run in the ninth, then retired Rocco Baldelli on a foul popup with the bases loaded to end it.
Royals 7, Orioles 0: At Baltimore, Mike Sweeney ended Kansas City’s club-record streak of 32 scoreless innings with a two-run double in the sixth, and the Royals snapped an eight-game skid by beating the Orioles.
Tigers 5, Twins 3: At Minneapolis, Jason Smith hit two of Detroit’s three homers to help the Tigers beat Minnesota. Carlos Guillen hit a three-run homer in the first inning for Detroit.
