Thanks for making library celebration a party to remember

The Spokesman-Review

On behalf of director Julie Meier and the staff of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, I want to say thank you to everyone involved in the celebration of the library’s 100th birthday on June 6. Despite a rainy, windy day more than 200 people turned out and birthday gifts of $830 were given to benefit the building fund for the new library. Also, more than $1,000 was raised in the drawing for one of wildlife artist Terry Lee’s limited-edition bronze bears.

We would especially like to thank the Coeur d’Alene Woman’s Club – who formed to establish the library in 1904 – the Friends of the Coeur d’Alene Public library, and the library foundation members and volunteers Ruth Pratt, Judey Brown, Mary Sanderson, Sandy Sanderson, Sherry Lenarz, Judi Messina, Ray and Maxine Johannsen, Brenda Garcia and Lori Mayfield. We appreciate, too, the contributions to the event by Marshall Mend, Pete Rezendes and Adam Townsend.

Guests at the party enjoyed a program provided by David Groth and the Coeur d’Alene juggling club, Cathyanne Nonini and her violin students, and the Peruvian folk dances of Rosario Wohlsen and her son Ricardo.

In addition we thank the following business groups and individuals for their contributions: the Coeur d’Alene Inn, the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association, the Neider Avenue Safeway and the Coeur d’Alene Super 1.

It is this kind of community support that will help us to reach the goal of a new Coeur d’Alene Public Library building. What a birthday party that will be!
