Canadians tip Indians

The Spokesman-Review

VANCOUVER, B.C. – A day off may be just what the Spokane Indians need.

Josh Beauregard drove in three runs, two coming on a second-inning home run, and the Vancouver Canadians cruised to a 6-3 victory over the Indians in Northwest League play on Sunday at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Vancouver (11-13) won four of the five games in the series. Spokane (12-12) has its first day off of the season today. The Indians host Eugene for a five-game series beginning Tuesday night.

Spokane took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Brandon Cashman led off with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Boggs.

Vancouver took the lead for good in the second. Myron Leslie’s RBI double tied the score and Beauregard’s two-run blast untied it.

The only other offense the Indians mustered came in the top of the eighth inning.

Cashman led off with a double. Travis Metcalf walked with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch with two outs. Chris Alexander followed with a two-run double.

Spokane starter Mark Roberts fell to 0-4 on the season. He allowed three earned runs on three hits and three walks in three innings.

Alexander went 4 for 4 at the plate for the Indians.
