The Spokesman-Review

Giants 7, Cardinals 2: Dustin Hermanson took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Barry Bonds hit a three-run homer to help San Francisco win in St. Louis. Hermanson (4-3) allowed only a fourth-inning walk to Albert Pujols before Pujols’ 28th homer ended his no-hit bid with one out in the seventh.

Cubs 5, Phillies 1: Moises Alou, Sammy Sosa and Derrek Lee homered to back Kerry Wood as Chicago notched a victory in Philadelphia. Wood (5-3) improved to 2-0 with a 1.76 ERA since returning from nearly two months on the disabled list caused by a strained right triceps.

Dodgers 3, Padres 2: Adrian Beltre homered off Rod Beck with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, leading Los Angeles past visiting San Diego. The Dodgers got their 16th win in 18 games.

Brewers 7, Astros 6: Roger Clemens tied his season high by allowing three home runs as Milwaukee stopped a four-game losing streak by winning in Houston. Clemens, who didn’t get a decision, left trailing 5-0 after allowing five runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Expos 2, Marlins 1: Orlando Cabrera’s sacrifice fly in the fourth ended the Expos’ 42-inning scoreless streak against the Marlins, and Jose Vidro hit a go-ahead RBI double in the fifth as Montreal beat visiting Florida.

Pirates 6, Reds 3: Oliver Perez struck out 11 in seven innings, and Craig Wilson drove in two runs to lead Pittsburgh to a win over visiting Cincinnati. The Pirates are 6-2 since the All-Star break and have won 18 of 24.

Rockies 8, Diamondbacks 2: Vinny Castilla broke up Casey Fossum’s no-hit bid with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, then added another two-run homer in the eighth to lead Colorado to a win in Phoenix and send Arizona to its team-record 12th straight loss.

Braves at Mets, ppd: Atlanta’s game in New York was postponed because of rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sept. 13 at Shea Stadium.
