Support for firefighters appreciated

As the former chief of the now-defunct Millwood Fire Department, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the many, many people who offered their encouragement and support recently.

The firefighters — both full time and volunteer — were, and continue to be, professional and dedicated to the field of emergency services. I wish them the best as they continue to pursue careers in this field. Their skills, integrity and dedication will be an asset to any department.

Family, friends, neighbors, citizens and business owners were a constant source of much appreciated and encouraging kind words.

Phone calls, letters, and visits from colleagues statewide were inspirational and reminded me why I chose to work in the field of emergency services.

The outpouring of support was truly incredible. It carried me through a very difficult time and helped bring me out triumphant on the other side. Although I will miss serving the people of Millwood, I look forward to continuing my career in the fire service with the Spokane Valley Fire Department. Thank you!
