Morrison selected to USA squad

The Spokesman-Review

Gonzaga University sophomore Adam Morrison, a graduate of Mead High, was named to the 12-member USA Young Men’s Qualifying team, USA Basketball announced Friday from East Rutherford, N.J.

Morrison officially made the team when Shannon Brown of Michigan State was cut. Curtis Sumpter of Villanova, who was cut Wednesday, was added to the team when Eric Williams of Wake Forest (illness) couldn’t play.

The 20-and-under squad will compete at the FIBA Americas World Championship for Young Men Qualifying Tournament, which begins Wednesday at Halifax, Canada.

The team will meet Canada on Sunday afternoon in an exhibition.

Farmer wins WSWGA title

Former Eastern Washington University competitor Shawn Farmer, golfing for Sahalee, defeated PNGA Hall of Famer Anne Sander (Broadmoor), 7 and 6, to win the 36-hole match play championship of the Washington State Women’s Golf Association Championship.

Farmer, three holes up after 18 at Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle, combined long shots off the tee and critical iron shots to take her first title.
