It’s official: Brosnan says that he’s deep-sixing 007
Pierce Brosnan is turning in his license to kill. In an interview on Entertainment Weekly’s Web site posted Tuesday, the Irish-born actor said 2002’s “Die Another Day” was his last mission on her majesty’s secret service.
“That’s it,” Brosnan said. “I’ve said all I’ve got to say on the world of James Bond. … Bond is another lifetime behind me.”
Over the past few months, Brosnan has been openly feuding with Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, complaining that the films have become too formulaic and action-driven.
Speculation about Brosnan’s successor has centered around Brits Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler, Jude Law and Ewan McGregor, as well as Aussies Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger and Eric Bana.
For Brosnan, playing Bond will always be a fond memory.
“We went out on a high,” Brosnan said, “and I look back affectionately at that time and doing those four movies. But I’ve said all I gotta say on it.”
And here’s your welcome-home cake …
After six weeks in rehab for an eating disorder, Mary-Kate Olsen was discharged from a Utah treatment center late Friday.
“She is feeling very well and is looking forward to rejoining her family and friends and preparing for her freshman year at New York University,” a spokesman said.
It sure cost Oprah a lot of bread
Meanwhile, it was a sandwich that did in Oprah Winfrey.
Impressed with a chicken curry sandwich at the Art Café and Bakery in San Luis Obispo, Calif., the TV talk host offered to buy the place — and within 24 hours, the deal was done.
Former owner/chef Margaux Sky said it all came as a surprise: “It was just a sandwich, you know what I mean?”
Unfortunately, most of them will get the boot

Gee, thanks for the lousy memories
British fans have put up a plaque in a Bristol park where Bob Hope played as a child — and where he was bitten by a dog.
Hope’s 82-year-old cousin, Sidney Hope of Southampton, unveiled the plaque Tuesday in St. George’s Park.
The comedian carried two painful memories of the park: He was bitten by a dog there, and he was hit on the nose while protecting his own dog from a group of children.
“I carry both scars to this day and I’ve been leery of dog acts ever since,” he once remarked.
