Equestrian

July 31-Aug. 1: Cowgirl Up “Games on Horseback” Show at Shriner’s Arena in Cheney, 44th Lane off Highway 195. Cost is $1.75 per ride, plus $2 per day arena fee. Must have own horse. Spectator admission free. Info: Jessica McLaughlin 926-3642.

Football

July 30: Free Vandal football clinic for ages 6 to 13, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., with University of Idaho head coach Nick Holt and his staff. Free hot dogs and sodas after clinic.

Golf

Aug. 3: Rally for the Cure tournament to benefit breast cancer research. Downriver GC, 8:30 a.m. $15 entry fee. Info: Ruth 327-1965.

Hiking

Aug. 5: “Hike the Canyons in Southern Utah,” slide program by James Kimball, 7 p.m., at REI, 1125 N. Monroe. Kimball, REI’s manager, will focus on canyon hikes featuring Indian ruins, petroglyphs, and pictographs in areas such as Cedar Mesa, with hikes in Owl canyon, Fish Canyon, Grand Gulch in the Moab region.

Softball

Swimming

Sign up: Improve your swimming stroke and technique. Spokane Masters Swim and Tri open to all levels. Must be over 18. Experienced coach is available. Swim schedule, until Aug. 29, is Sunday 2-3:30 p.m., Monday and Wednesday 7-8:30 p.m. at Witter pool. Info: 448-1548.

Triathlon

July 31: Medical Lake Kiwanis 10th annual mini triathlon. Start, transitions and finish at Waterfront Park in Medical Lake. Swim 1,200 feet, bicycle 10 miles, run 3.4 miles. No tandem bikes or pull-carts allowed. Bike helmets required. Check-in and late registration 8:45-9:45 a.m. Pre-race instructions 9:45 a.m. Race starts at 10 a.m. Cost (late registration): $40 individuals, $80 team (three people).
