Aldeen ‘Dee’ Denison
Fruitland, Wash.
Funeral Mass for Aldeen “Dee” Denison, 44, will be today at 10 a.m. at West End Community Center. Strate Funeral Home, Davenport is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Denison, who died Monday, was born in Spokane. She was a resident of Fruitland, Wash., for 10 years.
She was a member of the Spokane Tribe of Indians and had recently completed two years of college at the Spokane Tribal College.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Denison of Fruitland; two children, Tina Hughes and Kellie Burks, both of Spokane; her mother, Viola Hughes of Airway Heights; three sisters, Bobbi Hughes and Jodi De La Cruz, both of Airway Heights, and Darla Henke of Fruitland; two brothers, Joseph Hughes of Airway Heights and Duner Hughes of Salt Lake City; and three grandchildren.
Flora Schmidt
Spokane
Visitation for Flora A. Schmidt, 91, will be today at 4 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, with vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Requiem Mass will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Mrs. Schmidt, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday. She was a resident of Spokane for 52 years.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Louis, died earlier.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Schmidt of Kalispel, Mont., and Richard Schmidt of Ennis, Mont.; two daughters, Eleanor Zinger of Spokane and Judith Gardner of Cle Elum, Wash.; a brother, Paul Bergman of Spokane Valley; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Grace Gallegos
Spokane
Visitation for Grace E. Gallegos, 80, will be today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Riplinger Funeral Home. Funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fowler United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Gallegos, who died Tuesday, was a resident of Spokane for 58 years. She was born in Valley, Wash.
She worked in an escrow department in banking.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Gilbert.
Survivors include a son, Michael Gallegos, and a daughter, Sue Ann Eckerman, both of Spokane; two sisters, Hazel Beck and Mary Warren; a brother, Gordon Story; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jess ‘Steve’ Brooks
Spokane Valley
Memorial service for Jess “Steve” Brooks, 83, will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Gathering Place, 404 N. Argonne Road. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Brooks, who was born in Grandview, Wash., was a 60-year resident of the Spokane Valley. He died Monday.
He graduated from Cashmere High School in 1940 and from Washington State University in 1963.
Mr. Brooks served in the Army during World War II in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Tunistan and French-Morocco. He was a corporal, was rated as a first-class gunner, and received the combat infantryman badge. He was awarded four Bronze Battle Stars and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Brooks was a Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy for 25 years, starting as a patrolman from 1950 to 1953. From 1953 to 1961 he worked in dispatch and became a detective in 1961, retiring as a detective sergeant in 1975.
He was a member of the American Legion, National Rifle Association and the Retired Deputies Association. He enjoyed landscape painting, motorcycles, boating, gourmet cooking, cars and gardening.
He married Edith Benson in 1945; she died in 1982.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Ruth; a son, Steve Brooks of Spokane; a daughter, Valerie Brooks Bollers of Portland; a stepdaughter, Colleen Coleman of Spokane; three stepsons, Mike Hill of Post Falls, and Randy and John Hill, both of Osburn, Idaho; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Beulah (Bryant) Krug
Republic, Wash.
No service will be held for Beulah I. (Bryant) Krug, 82. Neptune Society handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Krug, who was born in Rice, Wash., was a resident of Republic for 46 years. She died Friday.
She graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1939 and attended Wenatchee Junior College.
She was a bookkeeper in the family business.
Mrs. Krug was a member of the Eagles and the Rebekah lodges. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, August.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Willman of Spokane; two sons, David Halsted of Houston and Paul Cribby of Malo, Wash.; two sisters, Dorothy Grey of Stanwood, Wash., and Betty Lou Bryant of Spokane; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

June Atkinson
Ephrata, Wash.
No service will be held for June Norris Atkinson, 84, at her request. Nicholes Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Atkinson, who died May 30, was born in Endicott, Wash.
She graduated from Endicott High School in 1937 and attended Eastern Washington State College of Education.
She married Robert Atkinson in 1940.
Following World War II, the couple resided in Pine City, Wash., and from 1951 to 1953 in Oakesdale, Wash.
In 1953, they moved to Oroville, Wash., where Mrs. Atkinson began her career in banking.
In 1957 the family moved to Ephrata, where she joined the staff at Security Bank of Washington. She retired as head cashier after 25 years.
Her husband died in 1991.
Mrs. Atkinson was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a longtime member of the American Legion, Women of the Moose, Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge and Ladies of the Elks.
She was an avid bowler and gardener and enjoyed her years as percussionist and featured dancer with the Ladies of the Elks Kitchen Band. She also enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Atkinson of Bellingham and Doug Atkinson of Ephrata; a daughter, Faye Driscoll of Beaverton, Ore.; seven grandchildren two and great-granddaughters.

John Glubrecht
Spokane
Memorial service for John Dale Glubrecht, 64, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mr. Glubrecht, a 54-year resident of Spokane County, died May 30. He was born in Portland.
He graduated from Rogers High School in 1958 and served in the Air Force.
He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Eastern Washington University and worked for Boeing in Seattle.
He then joined the Air National Guard full time and retired as a master sergeant in 1994.
After retirement he was employed by Southland Corp. until 2001.
He enjoyed leather working, metaphysical studies and hiking.
Survivors include four children, Dale Glubrecht of Huntsville, Ala., and Lisa Viehouser, Lucas and Abraham Glubrecht, all of Spokane; six siblings, Thomas Glubrecht of Tucson, Ariz., Sherrie Holmgren of Portland, Judy Sartin of Yakima, Barbara Smeltzer of Spokane, David Glubrecht of Clayton, Wash., and Daniel Glubrecht of Hillsboro, Ore.; and nine grandchildren.

Edward Corning
Newport, Wash.
Funeral for Edward L. Corning, 73, will be today at 2 p.m. at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, with burial at the Newport Cemetery.
Mr. Corning died Tuesday.
He was born in Pierre, S.D. At age 3, his family moved to Caldwell, Idaho, where he attended school.
In 1949 he married Wanda Calhoun, and in 1965 he married Betty Spurgeon. Both marriages ended in divorce.
In 1974 he married Elsie Swain.
Mr. Corning did a variety of jobs. He was involved in the construction of Albeni Falls Dam and worked as a dry kiln operator for area mills, including Diamond International, Fuher Sawmill (which later became J.D. Lumber) and Merritt Bros. He was a logger with Austin-Myers. He worked for McKern’s Chevron and was a miner in Riggins, Idaho. He also did farm work and enjoyed haying and working on farm equipment.
His wife died in 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Pauline Chapman of Los Angeles and Nancy Rhine of Oldtown, Idaho; three sons, Douglas Corning of Oldtown, David Corning of Colville and Gerald Corning of Central Point, Ore.; two stepsons, Jim and David Koch, both of Priest River, Idaho; his mother, Luella Corning of Newport; a brother, Clarence Corning of Priest River; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Kenneth Holtz
Post Falls
Service for Kenneth W. Holtz, 100, will be at a later date. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holtz, who was born in Omaha, Neb., died Wednesday.
He married Eve Hamilton in 1936 and worked as a warehouseman in the railroad industry. They moved to North Idaho from Montana in 1984.
His wife died in 1988.
Mr. Holtz enjoyed camping, fishing and other outdoors activities.
Survivors include a son, Ken Holtz of Boise; two daughters, Gretchen Eck of Corona Del Mar, Calif., and Jan Leary of Post Falls; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Betty Altimore
Spokane
Private service will be held for Betty Lou Altimore, 80. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Altimore, a lifelong resident of Spokane, died June 4.
Born in Spokane, she grew up locally and was employed as a telephone operator in the banking industry.
Mrs. Altimore enjoyed needlework, crafting and reading.
Her husband, Jake, died in 1987.
Survivors include three children, Valerie Nesbitt of Spokane, Barbara Borsuk of Phoenix and Tom Vaughn of Reno, Nev.; and four grandchildren.
