Reds rough up Shadow

YAKIMA – Aaron Nonnenmacher scored a pair of first-half goals and added another early in the second half as the Yakima Reds rolled to a 4-2 victory over the Spokane Shadow in Premier Development League action Friday night at Marquette Stadium.

It was the first home victory this season for the Reds (2-8-2).

Spokane (7-3-1) suited up only 11 players because of injuries.

Jorge Lopez also scored for the Reds.

“It was a matter of desire. I just wanted to get a win at home,” said Nonnenmacher, who collected Yakima’s first hat trick of the season. “I decided to try and make an impact.”

The four goals were the Reds’ biggest offensive output of the season.

Nonnenmacher and Ryan Delo, who picked up an assist on the game’s first goal, just joined the team two weeks ago.

“We’ve got some chemistry with Delo and Nonnenmacher,” Yakima coach Luiz Machado said. “They move off the ball and that gives the midfielders a lot of options. They’ve brought us a lot of energy.”

Yakima goalie Chris Eylander held Spokane in check until the Shadow found the net twice in the final minutes.

Spokane’s Dustin Allberry ended Eylander’s shutout bid with a goal in the 87th minute. Brett Hite picked up the Shadow’s final tally during stoppage time.

Spokane goalkeeper Shaun Kalnasy stopped just two of six shots on goal.

Spokane visits Abbotford on Sunday.
