• Members of the North Idaho College chapter of Business Professionals of America recently earned recognition at the BPA National Leadership Conference held in Cincinnati.

The NIC students were among approximately 4,000 college and high school students nationwide who attended the conference and participated in workplace skills competitions, professional workshops and speaker sessions.

The students qualified for the national competition by placing at the state conference in Boise in March.

Winners are listed.

Adina Winstead, Coeur d’Alene, first place in Integrated Office Applications, second place in Advanced Word Processing; Tom Affeldt, Post Falls, fifth place in Legal Office Procedures; and Morgan Purvis, St. Maries, and Kevin Boveda, Coeur d’Alene, fifth place in Presentation Management Team.

Velda Kuhn, Spirit Lake, Affeldt and Boveda were also each presented with an Ambassador Torch Award, the highest BPA honor given for outstanding community service.

Kuhn was awarded a scholarship to attend the national BPA Leadership Academy personal leadership program, and Boveda served as a voting delegate for the State of Idaho.

All of the students have been active in the NIC chapter of BPA during the 2003-2004 school year and Purvis served as the 2003-2004 Idaho postsecondary vice president.

•Area students were recently honored at the Associated Students University of Idaho annual Student Achievement Awards Ceremony and Reception held last month in Moscow, Idaho. Recipients were recognized for high levels of achievement in academics, leadership and service experiences.

North Idaho honorees and their hometowns are listed.

Outstanding Freshmen/ Valkyries Awards: Jessica Helsley, Moscow, also received Dean Vettrus Scholarship.

Outstanding Sophomore/ Spurs Awards: Aaron Elder, Erin Manderville, and Clarisse Vaury, all of Moscow, all received the Dean Vettrus Scholarship; Somdebda W. Flavien Sowadogo, Moscow.

Outstanding Junior/ Silver Lance Awards: Brenda Eby, Bonners Ferry, also received the Dean Vettrus Scholarship; Autumn Hansen, Coeur d’Alene, also received the Dean Vettrus Scholarship; Megan Thompson, Hayden.

Outstanding Senior Awards: Krisandra Allen and Oriana Obiri, both of Moscow; Jenny Anchondo and Lilian Mramba, both of Coeur d’Alene.

Bookstore Leadership Award: Brenda Eby, Bonners Ferry; Autumn Hansen and Lilian Mramba, both of Coeur d’Alene; Jenni Keller, Moscow; Megan Thompson, Hayden.
