Trojans settle for 4th after losing to Bears
BLACKFOOT – Stephanie Helbling’s two-run triple during a three-run sixth inning Friday led Moscow to a 4-2 win over Post Falls in consolation play of the State 4A softball tournament at Blackfoot High School.
Moscow (9-23) will play Caldwell this morning and finish no worse than third place. Madison awaits the Moscow/Caldwell winner in the championship round.
Post Falls (13-17), at state for the first time, placed fourth.
Helbling also singled, stole second base and scored in the bottom of the fifth to give the Bears a 1-all tie.
The Trojans scored their runs off errors, after singles by Heather Poole in the fifth and Alicia Kirsbom in the seventh. PF stranded runners at second the third bases in the seventh.
PF opened the day with a 10-1 win that eliminated Bonneville. Heather Glaze went 3 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs.
The Trojans then ousted host Blackfoot, 7-4. Sean Topp (2-2) struck out six and received an offensive boost from Glaze and Megan McClanahan, who were a combined 5 for 8 with three runs.
Moscow blanked Century 8-0 and Emmett 1-0 in loser-out contests to reach the game against PF.
