Salary cap levels field

The Spokesman-Review

Baseball needs a salary cap. There are a few teams that have way more money than other teams and can afford salaries for any player, while the teams with less income barely bring in a home crowd because of losing records.

If a salary cap was enforced in Major League Baseball, the teams would be more evenly matched because the better players wouldn’t be concentrated on one team. If the teams were more evenly matched it would make baseball more interesting. Teams you hardly ever hear of would bring bigger names to their franchises. Every team would have an increased chance at having a winning record or possibly a championship title. For all we know, the Pittsburgh Pirates could go to the World Series next year if a salary cap was introduced.

The New York Yankees have gone to the World Series six times in the past 10 years. Personally, I’m sick of seeing and hearing about the Yankees. A salary cap would likely change that. Look at the NFL; you hardly ever see one team go the Super Bowl back to back. A salary cap for baseball would probably have the same effect.
