YAKIMA — A second-place finish by brothers Matt and Tim Stevenson in doubles play vaulted the Medical Lake Cardinals to the State 2A team title on Saturday at the Yakima Tennis Club.

The Stevensons fell 6-4, 6-1 in the finals to a team from Omak, but their effort earned Medical Lake eight points and helped the Cardinals hold off runners-up Omak and Cashmere, which both finished with 13 points.

Medical Lake tallied 16 points thanks to Zak Nelson’s second-place finish in singles play earlier.

It was the first State 1A title for Medical Lake. The Cardinals placed second the last three years.

•The Pullman Greyhounds girls doubles team of Abbey Funabiki and Amy Small won their second straight State 2A title, defeating a team from Ephrata 6-4, 6-4, also at the Yakima Tennis Club.
