SEATTLE – A Bellevue lawyer was shot and critically injured in the parking lot outside his quiet suburban office Wednesday, and police arrested a former Snohomish County deputy prosecutor.

Kevin Y. Jung, a prominent lawyer among local Koreans, suffered at least one gunshot wound after he pulled his Lexus sedan into the parking lot Wednesday morning, Bellevue police said. He was in critical condition Wednesday night at Overlake Medical Center in Bellevue.

Witnesses reported the shooter’s description and license plate number to officers, who tracked the plates through a rental agency to the former Snohomish County deputy prosecutor. Everett police picked up the man and turned him over to Bellevue officers. After questioning Wednesday night, William R. Joice was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of attempted murder.

The arrested man, a former fighter pilot with the Air Force, worked in the prosecutor’s office from 1991-2000, said Mark Roe, the office’s chief criminal deputy prosecutor. He handled some felonies but no high-profile cases.

Since leaving the prosecutor’s office, he has been in private practice in suburban Mill Creek, where he did civil and criminal defense work, Roe said.

The former prosecutor had been scheduled to face Jung Wednesday morning in a contempt hearing in a civil case, the Herald of Everett reported.
