Disappointed by lack of coverage

The Spokesman-Review

I consider Spokane to be a running community … proof of this would be Bloomsday as our crown jewel. I am very disappointed by the lack of news coverage received to this sport recently. As a competitor in the Spokane Half Marathon a couple of weeks ago, I hoped to find results the next day. With a magnifying glass I found limited info in the “mouse-type” recap section, for the marathon only. There was no mention of the marathon relay teams, the half marathon, and a 5-mile race taking place at the same time. Apparently if you choose to run less than 26.2 miles, it isn’t newsworthy!

Now as the cross country season winds down, I continue my frustration to the lack of coverage. This has been apparent all season, but (Oct. 31) was the capper. The best high school teams in Eastern Washington competed for state berths and not only were there NO photos, but apparently no reporter. Today’s article ran on the last page, and only as a recap to the results.

There are many people in this area who are interested in this sport. I would appreciate seeing more coverage paid to these amazing athletes. If I were interested in football, soccer or volleyball, I would have had plenty of reading in today’s Review … but unfortunately those are not my interests and the coverage for ANYTHING running related has been pretty darn sad lately.
