B-11: Republic’s 19-14 upset of Waterville was historic. The win was the Tigers’ first state playoff victory since 1996, when Republic advanced to the state semifinals before losing to DeSales. Republic (6-4) plays unranked La Salle (9-2) of Union Gap in the quarterfinals in Yakima on Saturday. Also on Saturday, No. 3 Lind-Ritzville (10-0) takes on seventh-ranked Orcas Island (9-3) in Mount Vernon and fifth-ranked Reardan (9-1) travels to Vancouver to play No. 2 Wahkiakum. A win by L-R and Reardan would set up a semifinal rematch of the Broncos’ 19-0 win over Reardan on Oct. 22. B-8: For the past two years, the point of the Northeast B-8 schedule was to decide who would avoid losing to LaCrosse-Washtucna earlier, Columbia or Sprague-Harrington. This year, Columbia’s 42-8 win over S-H on Oct. 1 put the fifth-ranked Falcons (9-1) in the unenviable role of opening the state playoffs Friday night in the Tri-Cities against top-ranked LaCrosse-Washtucna and its 32-game winning streak. No. 3 Columbia (8-1) will start on the other half of the bracket Friday night in Medical Lake against 8-2 Jubilee Christian of Prescott. Columbia also caught a break when second-ranked Clallam Bay was put in the other half of the bracket. Clallam Bay beat the Lions 40-36 in Hunters on Sept. 10 for Columbia’s only loss. 1A/B boys soccer: St. George’s (8-5) earned a semifinal spot against Mount Vernon Christian (9-6) Friday at 6 p.m. at Curtis High School in Tacoma. University Prep (13-1) and Friday Harbor (12-3) will face each other in the other semifinal. The state championship match will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday.
