Grading the Cougs

The Spokesman-Review

Quarterbacks: B+

A couple of dicey throws by Brink were made up for by a nice rapport with Bumpus and Hill.

Running backs: B+

Not much accomplished between the tackles, but Harrison did a nice job of getting to the edges.

Wide receivers: A-

Jordan came up with three big catches, and Bienemann also played an important role.

Offensive line: B

Gave up three sacks, but still, got WSU the first downs when needed.

Defensive line: B

Didn’t make too many impact plays but gave room for the linebackers to help out the cause.

Linebackers: A

By far the best game of the year, and Derting looked like the impact player he was touted to be.

Secondary: B-

Came up with a couple of interceptions while struggling to hold wideouts in check.

Special teams: C+

Missed field goals and problems on the punt return continued to plague the Cougars.

Coaching: B-

Cougars’ focus and motivation was clear — why the team still couldn’t put away an inferior bunch was not.

Overall: B
