Basketball

Dec. 18-19: Hanford Holiday Hoopfest in Richland. The AAU-sanctioned tournament is for sixth- through eighth-grade boys and girls. Cost is $160 per team with a guarantee of four games. Oct. 23-24: Tenth annual EWU Fall Shootout 3-on-3 tournament. Adult divisions play Saturday and youth divisions Sunday with three games guaranteed. Entry deadline is Oct. 8. Bowling

Oct. 9-10: Inland Empire mixed tournament sponsored by Spokane Bowling Association. You must be ABC or WIBC sanctioned to participate. Entry fee is $15 per event. Entries and more information available at all area bowling alleys.

Backpacking/Hiking/Climbing

Oct. 7: “Bhutan: Land of the Dragon” slide show by John Roskelley, 7 p.m., at Mountain Gear, 2002 N. Division. Cost: $5 to benefit The Lands Council.

Fishing

Oct. 6-27: Fly-tying class, Wednesdays at 7 p.m., taught by Jan Sadlo at Central Middle School through the Institute for Extended Learning. Cost: $30. Sign-up: 279-6030.

Hiking

Nature

Oct. 9: Fall mushroom identification class through IEL from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $28. Info: 279-6000.

Running/Walking

Sign up: Adult evening walking program offers various activities for ages 18 and older. Walking program visits different sites in Spokane and on the South Hill twice a week. Info: Beth Moore, 535-8274 or 625-6200.

Oct. 2: Sixth annual 5K Race for women at 10 a.m. starts at Ag Trade Center. Register Oct. 1, 5-8 p.m. at Ag Trade Center. Benefits the Inland Northwest Women’s Health Network. Info: 953-9924.

Shooting

Sept. 26: Morning Star Boys Ranch Benefit Shoot and Spaghetti Feed at Landt Farms Sporting Clays. Warm-up starts at 8:30 a.m. and tournament at 10 a.m. Cost: $50 adults and $35 youths younger than 18. Info: 464-2070.

Lawn bowling

Continuing: Lawn bowling six days a week through October, just south of Witter Pool on Mission. Monday, Wednesday and Friday bowling is at 7 p.m. and at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Shooting

Continuing: Eastern Washington “Sporting Clays Youth Shooting Days” runs on the first and third Saturday of each month at Landt Farms Sporting Clays. Sessions are from 9-11 a.m. Cost is $20 which includes use of the gun, ammo, targets for up to 50 shots, earplugs and coaching. Info: 464-2070.

Continuing: Downtown Spokane YMCA master’s swimming welcomes all levels and meets every Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $22 per month for non-members, free for members.
