Lake City needs five games to defeat Moscow

It was the night for game fives in volleyball.

Undefeated Inland Empire League champion Lake City was pushed to the limit at Moscow before downing the Bears, Sandpoint needed five games to earn a win in Rathdrum, and Bonners Ferry needed a marathon effort to stop visiting Priest River.

On a light night at Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene needed four tough games to get past the Trojans.

The Timberwolves captured game one at Moscow, but lost the next two games to face their first loss. Lake City rallied to take a 25-20, 17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10 win.

Amy Lawson helped key the comeback with 16 kills and three blocks. Lauren Stern dished off 49 assists and Danni Ghramm served up nine aces and came up with 10 digs.

In other games: Sandpoint staked Lakeland to a 2-0 lead before rallying, 24-26, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-12. Caitlyn Free had a game-high 26 kills and eight blocks to lead the Bulldogs while Kelsey James dished off 29 assists and Savanna Lester kicked up 19 digs. Scarlett Pruitt had a game-high 22 digs for the Hawks. … Coeur d’Alene downed Post Falls, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, 25-15. Riki Moreland had eight kills and a pair of blocks to lead Post Falls.

•Bonners Ferry dropped two out of the first three games before rallying to down visiting Priest River, 25-27, 28-26, 18-25, 25-20, 15-10 in the Intermountain League. Setter Jennifer Youngworth had 31 assists to lead the Badgers.… Tarra Tymsen ended Timberlake’s 25-18, 25-13, 25-23 win at Kellogg with a cross-court kill.

Cassie Scheffelmaier had 12 assists and six digs to lead Kootenai to a 25-13, 26-24, 25-14 North Star League win at Lakeside.

•St. Maries scored a 25-12, 25-10, 25-20 non-league win at Potlatch.

Girls soccer

Sandpoint kept its Inland Empire League unbeaten streak intact by doubling up Coeur d’Alene, 4-2 at Coeur d’Alene. The Bulldogs (9-0-2) got two goals and an assist from Kylie France, who scored goals seven minutes apart in the second half. The Vikings (5-4-2) scored first when Jaimee Myers scored at the 17-minute mark, but France answered a minute later with a scoring feed to Angie Menghini. … Jenny Tibbals scored twice as Moscow ripped visiting Lewiston, 5-0. The Bears (6-4-1) scored three times in a nine-minute span of the second half. … Natalie Nicholas scored the game-winner in the 64th minute, lifting Lakeland to a 3-2 win over visiting Lake City.

Boys soccer

Justin Honsaker’s goal in the 48th minute proved the difference as Coeur d’Alene scored a 1-0 IEL win at Sandpoint. The Vikings (10-0-1) got seven saves from sophomore Tyler Olmstead. … Lakeland earned its first win over Lake City, downing the visiting Timberwolves 3-2. Moscow got a goal and an assist from Andy Rust en route to a 3-0 shutout win at Lewiston. The Bears limited the Bengals to just five shots on goal.

•Post Falls fell, 1-0, at Northwest Christian in a non-league match.
