Bobcats claw past Vikings in overtime

Justin Domineck ran for three touchdowns Saturday, including a 17-yard score in overtime, as the Montana State Bobcats rallied for a 31-24 victory over the Portland State Vikings in Bozeman, Mont.

The Vikings (3-3, 1-2 Big Sky) did not move the ball in their overtime possession.

The Bobcats (4-2, 3-0) bounced back from a 14-3 halftime deficit, but still trailed 24-17 when they began their final drive.

Montana State marched 82 yards in 18 plays, capped by a 1-yard dive by Domineck as time expired. MSU had three fourth-down conversions on the final drive.

EJ Cochrane, who had missed two field goals earlier in the game, kicked the extra point to tie the score in regulation.

Montana State quarterback Travis Lulay passed for a career high 375 yards, as the Bobcats rallied for their third straight conference win.

Sacramento St. 31, Weber St. 12

Ramon Payne had two of four interceptions by the Hornets (2-4, 1-2), and Matt Logue returned another for a score in a victory over the Wildcats (0-7, 0-4) in Sacramento, Calif.

Tyronne Gross ran for two touchdowns for the Hornets, who ended their three-game losing streak and a two-game scoreless drought.

Joe Johnson kicked four field goals for the Wildcats, but Kyle Bauer’s inaccurate passing was costly.

After Sacramento State fell behind 6-0, Gross’ 19-yard TD run late in the first quarter provided the Hornets’ first points in 11 quarters.

Logue returned a screen pass 14 yards for a score moments later.

Running back Ryan Mole threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Coogler to give the Hornets a 21-6 lead in the third quarter.

NAU 34, W. New Mexico 14

Jason Murrietta completed 20 of 36 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns as the Lumberjacks (3-3) defeated the Division II Mustangs (2-5) in Flagstaff, Ariz.

NAU took a 7-0 lead on Roger Robinson’s 16-yard TD reception with 9:27 remaining in the first quarter.

Robinson finished the game with 22 carries for 115 yards rushing.

Paul Ernster’s 44-yard field goal made it 10-0 at the 4:48 mark as the Lumberjacks capitalized on Jeff Singleton’s diving interception of a tipped pass.

Ernster added a 42-yard field goal to push the lead to 13-0 with 9:35 remaining before halftime.

Murrietta’s 33-yard TD strike to Simirone Wade pushed the second-quarter lead to 20-0.

The Lumberjacks scored 14 third-quarter points, with TD receptions coming from tight ends Brian Buzzard and Josh Hamlin.

Sandwiched between those scores was a 98-yard TD reception by Western New Mexico’s Hurtis Chinn.

The Mustangs closed the gap to 34-14 on Jonathan Schaeffer’s 5-yard TD catch early in the fourth quarter and Billy Varne’s two-point conversion catch.

Mustangs QB Tate Gunning threw for 280 yards and two TDs.
