CdA soccer team finishes on top

Coeur d’Alene finished its Inland Empire League boys soccer season with an unbeaten record Saturday after a 4-2 win over visiting Moscow.

Joe Hanich scored on a first-half goal and assisted on another for the Vikings (11-0-1). The Bears are 8-3.

Brett Payne and Nate Thurston both scored and assisted on a goal as visiting St. Maries (2-4) knocked off Priest River (0-3) 4-0 in the Intermountain League.

Girls soccer

Jenny Tibbals scored and assisted on a goal as second-place Moscow (7-4-1 IEL) knocked off visiting Coeur d’Alene (5-5-2) 3-0. Mia Tibbals and Jo Byrne also scored for the Bears.

•In a non-league match, Medical Lake (4-6-1) went on the road to tie St. Maries (1-7-6) 1-1.

Volleyball

Sandpoint swept visiting Lewiston (2-10) 25-15, 25-17, 25-18 in an IEL match. Caitllyn Free had 12 kills for the Bulldogs (7-5). … Moscow knocked off host Lakeland (4-8) 25-21, 31-33, 22-25, 25-22, 15-7 at Rathdrum. Kelsey Taylor led the Bears (8-4) with 16 kills and 16 blocks.

•Kootenai (11-1) stayed in a tie for first in the North Star League with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 win over visiting Coeur d’Alene Charter (0-12) at Harrison.
