Some Japanese schools are testing a radio frequency identification technology that’s designed to help kids stay safe. Students carry small tags in their backpacks that alert school officials they’ve entered or left school grounds. The information is conveyed to their parents by e-mail.
It’s just the latest application of RFID technology, which is also used to track luggage in airports and speed up collection of traffic tolls.
