LOOKING AHEAD
As the state playoffs bloom in cross country, soccer and volleyball, the Greater Spokane League’s football regular season still has two weeks to run.
The best high school volleyball that the state has to offer will be on display this weekend in the Spokane area, with the 4A regional going on at Mt. Spokane and Mead and the 3A regional occurring at Cheney.
The District 8 3A girls soccer teams will try to get past the tough Mid-Valley schools, led by No. 1 seed West Valley (Yakima), which is 15-0-1, and No. 2 seed Hanford (14-2). The 3A regional starts today (schedule listed below). The 4A teams will spend the week picking the two schools that will face the Big Nine in the first two rounds of the state tournament.
Richland will be the site Saturday of the 4A and 3A regional cross country meets, with the GSL expected to dominate individually and in team competition.
Then there’s football. Eleven of the 14 GSL teams are still in the running for a 3A or 4A state playoff berth.
Whichever teams emerge to face the Mid-Valley and the Big Nine should be battle-tested.
