SEATTLE — It took 13 years, but De La Salle High School finally lost a football game.

A 39-20 defeat at the hands of Bellevue (Wash.) on Saturday night was the Spartans’ first since 1991 and halted the nation’s longest high school winning streak at 151 games.

A string of 12 consecutive undefeated seasons that became known simply as “The Streak” began in 1992 and brought national acclaim to the private school in Concord, Calif.

A 56-0 win over College Park in 1997 gave the Spartans 73 straight wins, breaking the national record of 72 set by Hudson (Mich.) from 1968-75. No college or professional football team has come close to approaching that number.

With 14-year-old sophomore Eric Block making his first high school start at quarterback, Bellevue didn’t attempt a pass. The Wolverines rushed 54 times for 463 yards.

J.R. Hasty led the Wolverines by rushing for 271 yards.
