Cardinals 6, Dodgers 5 (11): Reggie Sanders hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the 11th inning to give St. Louis a three-game sweep of visiting Los Angeles. The win was the ninth in a row for the Cardinals.
Phillies 4, Mets 2: Brett Myers threw three-hit ball over seven innings to help Philadelphia sweep visiting New York and send the Mets to their ninth straight loss. Mike Lieberthal and Jimmy Rollins homered for the Phillies.
Giants 4, Diamondbacks 1: Edgardo Alfonzo hit a two-run homer off Randy Johnson in the sixth inning as San Francisco tied the Cubs atop the wild card standings with a win over visiting Arizona.
Rockies 5, Padres 2: Vinny Castilla hit his 30th homer, and Jeromy Burnitz and Matt Holliday also connected as Colorado won in San Diego, sending the Padres to their fifth loss in six games.
Astros 10, Pirates 5: Mike Lamb went 4 for 5 with a homer and four RBIs to lead Houston past visiting Pittsburgh for its ninth straight win. Carlos Beltran added three hits as the Astros moved within 1 1/2 games of idle Chicago for the wild-card lead.
Expos 4, Braves 3 (12): Tony Batista hit a one-out RBI double in the 12th inning as Montreal ended a three-game losing streak with a win over visiting Atlanta.
Reds 9, Brewers 2: Adam Dunn hit a three-run homer and Luke Hudson pitched six strong innings to lead Cincinnati to a win in Milwaukee.
Cubs at Marlins, ppd: Chicago’s game at Florida was postponed due to Hurricane Frances. No makeup date was announced.
