Cattle shot in Big Hole Mountains

Associated Press

REXBURG, Idaho – As many as 10 cattle have been shot in the Big Hole Mountains this year, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said.

“This has been an ongoing problem for us that’s just getting worse,” Sheriff Roy Klingler said.

A Green Canyon-area rancher recently reported that three of his cattle had been shot, officials said, and similar shootings have happened near Heise Hot Springs in Jefferson County.

Property owners in the region have reported an increase in the number of gates left open or damaged, Klingler said, and that could prompt landowners to close their property to hunters and recreationists.
