Rangers 1, Angels 0: Rookie Chris Young allowed five hits in six innings, Kevin Mench hit a run-scoring single and Texas got a shutout win in Anaheim for the second straight day. The Angels fell three games behind West-leading Oakland and the Rangers stayed five games back of the Athletics.
Twins 5, Orioles 1: Johan Santana won his 11th straight start with another dominant performance, striking out a career high 14 over eight shutout innings as Minnesota beat visiting Baltimore. By winning his 12th consecutive decision, Santana (19-6) tied a Twins team record set by Scott Erickson in 1991 and matched by Brad Radke in 1997.
Indians 8, Royals 3: Ben Broussard hit a three-run homer to help Kyle Denney earn his first major league win as Cleveland beat visiting Kansas City. Broussard’s 14th homer capped a five-run third inning off Denny Bautista (0-3) as Cleveland averted a three-game sweep.
White Sox 6, Tigers 1: Paul Konerko and Carlos Lee homered, and Freddy Garcia pitched shutout ball into the eighth inning as Chicago beat visiting Detroit. Garcia allowed one run and six hits, struck out eight and walked three in 7 1/3 innings.
Blue Jays 9, Devil Rays 7: Vernon Wells homered in Toronto’s five-run third inning as the Blue Jays beat visiting Tampa Bay. Vinnie Chulk (1-3) pitched 1 1/3 innings for his first major league win.
