Rescue crews search for overdue plane

Associated Press

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho — Elmore County Search and Rescue crews were activated Monday to locate an overdue plane from the Mountain Home Airport.

County Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Barclay said the pilot is David Chitwood of Mountain Home.

He left between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday in his fixed-wing craft and was expected back by Monday. The plane only had about half a tank of gas, Barclay said.

The Civil Air Patrol had three planes in the air and was concentrating on areas north of town, including Danskin and Bennett Mountains and Teapot Dome.

The plane is a 172 Cessna, with a top wing and fixed landing gear. It is light yellow with a beige stripe and the tail number is N2650U.

Barclay asked that anyone who may have spotted the craft to call in at (208) 587-2121.
