Hayden park place for Fall Fun
Elvis is soon to be spotted in Hayden.
“The King,” joined by Marilyn Monroe, games and food and other entertainment, is part of the Fall Fun Festival next weekend at Hayden City Park.
The festival opens Friday at 5 p.m. with the Hayden Veterans of Foreign Wars Post flag ceremony, followed by Mary Ann Taibi and Deanna Jeffres singing the national anthem.
Doug and the In-Betweens take the stage next with country original tunes, followed by Laura Dittman’s tribute to Patsy Cline. Singer Curtis Hoyt rounds out the evening’s entertainment.
Next Saturday entertainers include the band Wrong Turn, solo guitarist Matt Sammond, Slim Dorsey, Alan Golub on the mandolin and performers from Moxie Tap and Theater Arts Academy and Creative Impact. Flying Home, a local jazz group, may fly in as well. Also featured are performances by Dorothy Kramer’s piano students, including 6-year-old Nathaniel Rnglish, 10-year-old Emily Hintz and 12-year-old Dimitri Christo.
Visions of Elvis, performed by Doug Spencer, takes center stage Oct. 3. Spencer, a St. Maries postal carrier by day, is known for exciting the crowd with the sounds and moves of Elvis. Other entertainment Oct. 3 includes Yodlin’ John and Friends, Juanita Anstine, Solvveig Vishnesky, solos and duets by Mary Ann Taibi and Deanna Jeffres, and more from Doug and the In-Betweens.
Marla’s Melodies will keep the tempo going with karaoke, and a Marilyn Monroe look-alike is rumored to be dropping by.
Chuckles, Magic Clown, and other Shrine Klowns will entertain during the festival. Artists and crafters will have booths and games will entertain the kids, says organizer Barbara Tennery. Children will also get the chance to paint pumpkins and make other crafts, with prizes awarded, Tennery said.
French dip sandwiches, Polish sausages, chili beans, hot dogs, kettle corn, muffins and spiced cider are on the menu.
The festival is sponsored by Hayden’s Gem Community Citizens Project Group. Created in 1988, the Idaho Gem program provides training, grants, scholarships and technical assistance in economic and community development for rural Idaho communities (with a population under 10,000).
Applications for vendor booths are still being accepted.
