Post Falls knocks off Lakeland in IEL softball action

The Post Falls Trojans used took advantage of two hits and four bases on balls to score six runs in the second inning on their way to a 7-2 Inland Empire League softball victory over the Lakeland Hawks at Post Falls on Wednesday.

Felicia McAlpin was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI for Post Falls. Lisa Steinbach struck out six and walked two to earn the victory.

Track and field

Washington State redshirt sophomores Diana Pickler and her sister, Julie Pickler, are in first and third place, respectively, after the first day of the women’s heptathlon at the 78th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Austin.

Diana Pickler leads the 17-woman field after the first four events with a lifetime-best 3,354 points. Julie Pickler accumulated 3,252 points, 32 less than second-place Jennifer Johnson of Texas A&M.

In the men’s decathlon, junior Darion Powell withdrew from the event after not starting the 400-meter race.

In third place among the 18 competitors after three events, Powell failed to clear the high jump at 5-9 3/4 before not attempting to run the 400.
